We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tristine Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tristine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I made was in 2014 I purchased underwater housing for my camera. I was given the opportunity by my cousin to borrow underwater housing and I fell in love instantly. I grew up around the water diving and fishing so when I jumped in the pool for the first time with my camera in underwater housing I was blown away by how much I loved it. I have been shooting underwater photography ever since, always trying new shots and techniques. I taught myself this craft and it has been an amazing experience. I have had the opportunity to teach here in the US as well as Mexico and Bahamas. I have been a professional photographer since 2004 after attending college for photography. Underwater photography is by far my favorite part of my job.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in South Florida resident. Through the course of my career I’ve spent years traveling the world teaching photography classes, hosting retreats and sharing my love of all things aquatic.
As a certified SCUBA diver, certified freediver and award winning underwater Professional Photographer,
my enthusiasm and love for the water is evident in the images and experiences I’m able to immortalize
through my photography. I have been shooting professionally since 2004 and in 2014 I started my underwater photography career,
My overwhelming passion for the underwater world is seamlessly combined with my eye for all forms of
beauty to shoot stunning photos, whether it be above or below the surface, as well as sea life or even an enchanting sunset painted in the heavens. I strive to become a master of boudoir and incorporate
this talent into my underwater work, perfectly capturing the flowing female form to truly showcase the beauty and elegance lying therein. My heart and soul are expressed through the lens of my camera. I specialize in underwater, boudoir, newborn, family, product and senior photography.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission now is to shoot as many women either in my Jensen Beach studio or underwater as possible. I have not only been behind the lens but also in front and it is so empowering and I would love to give all women that feeling. The feeling of liberation and to see themselves as the beautiful humans they are. We all need a ego boost once in a while and I believe photography gives that to us.
My other mission is to teach more about underwater photography one on one as well as workshops. I have been working on a video series to be launched early 2024. I am super excited about this project. I wish I had something like this when I started my underwater journey. I hope this will help more photographers go beneath the surface to photograph to challenge themselves and take a chance.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
I do have other steams of revenue. I have sold my fine art photography in galleries and online. I also pour resin and sell on amazon and in local shops. I pour resin to look like the ocean on cutting boards, surfboards (that I make myself), key holders and ocean wall hangings. I love the art of resin and what you can do with it. I have always been an artist so when I picked this up I just loved what can be done with resin.
