We recently connected with Trisha Wolf and have shared our conversation below.
Trisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was leaving a full-time steady job as a musician and moving to a new state without a job or much of a plan. I knew the job I was at wasn’t a good fit and couldn’t see continuing with it into the future but I didn’t have a clear vision of what else I wanted to do. Eventually a little idea started developing in my mind for a small business creating music for ballet class, but I didn’t have much confidence in my abilities to see it come to fruition as it was way outside of my comfort zone. After moving it took me sometime to really get going on my business idea but once the pandemic hit I had nothing but free time and didn’t want to waste the opportunity. Although it was hard to start and put my music out into the world not knowing what the reception would be, within 6 months one of my albums hit the iTunes charts and my business has been growing rapidly ever since.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started accompanying ballet classes when I was teenager. My mother was a piano teacher so I’d been playing piano for most of my life and combining that with my passion for dance was a natural fit. Although originally I pursued dancing as a career the piano kept sneaking into my life and ended up being the career that was the best fit for my talents. For my business I create and record arrangements of pop and classical music for ballet class to sell to teachers. My experience as a dancer helps to inspire my arrangements and my network of colleagues have given me so many ideas of what sorts of music they need for their classes. I’m so proud when people write to me to tell me how my music inspires them in their teaching. My goal is to bring joy into the ballet classroom through my music.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I have found that consistently releasing new albums helps me to keep the interest of my current listeners and also to reach new people as I explore different ideas and themes for my albums. Having the goal to release an album each month also keeps me on track and motivated to keep producing new material.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When my dream of a career as a ballet dancer ended it was very depressing. Without that goal in front of me anymore I was forced to pivot towards my work as a pianist and started to seek out more opportunities in that field. Although things didn’t work out as I had planned, this transition created so many opportunities for me that helped me develop the skills I would eventually need to start this business.
