We were lucky to catch up with Trish Ware recently and have shared our conversation below.
Trish , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I went to nursing school to become a labor and delivery nurse. Not a nurse, a labor nurse only. Once I landed my dream job, I became quickly saddened by what I was seeing at work. I loved supporting women throughout the process but I felt that we were interfering with the natural process of birth. I watched as women agreed to intervention after intervention, and I knew they did not quite understand what was happening in and around them. I would spend my shift trying to fill in the gaps and educate them as best I could. But at the bedside during labor, was too late. My hands were also tied at work, as I was required to carry out the doctor’s orders, even if I disagreed. In 2018, I began to teach online through my blog, labornursemama.com. I was blown away. My blog immediately had success. I realized that women were as hungry for education as I was to empower them with knowledge. In 2020 I launched my first online birth course, and then in 2022, we launched our private mama membership, which has over 900 members. We host workshops and weekly hangouts with our mamas. Our main objective is to change the birth culture through one educated mama at a time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an expert in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. I’m also a specialized, high-risk labor and delivery nurse who’s a mom of 7. And no, that’s not a typo. I’ve delivered thousands of babies at some of the top hospitals in the country… But I’ve also become *quite* adept at making the transition into motherhood an easier and more organized process.
I know what it’s like to be pregnant and anxious about the unknown…. and then to bring a baby home, and feel overwhelmed, exhausted, frustrated, and at your wit’s end. And trust me, having a proper plan in place way before birth makes everything so much more joyful for everyone!
So many of the checklists online left me feeling either more overwhelmed or just plain confused. This is why I created my powerful birth courses, Calm Labor Confident Birth Class and The VBAC Lab. We also have Calm mama SOciety an online mama membership that empowers women through community!
I am proud to present women with all the information so that they can choose what’s best or their birth journey. Through education and understanding women can leave have their best birth and not feel traumatized.
