Trish, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Moving from Michigan to Florida in 2016, I wanted to rebrand my business and create a brand that was more fitting for Florida and it’s design esthetic. I began thinking about and researching names of Interiors Design Firms. A common thread I noticed is that most design firms carry the name of the designer that owns the firm. I did not want to use my name to represent my company. I wanted the name to represent my design esthetic and not just be all about me. I also knew that I wanted the company’s name to be something & something. I love to design using opposing elements in a space. It is my signature esthetic. I began playing with word associations. I knew that I wanted the words to identify with design elements. Thinking on opposing elements, I first began associating words that simulated with a cozy soft feeling. Thinking to fabrics, Cashmere instantly came to mind and I instantly loved it. So, I had the first part quickly. Cashmere and . . .I struggled for awhile on the second word. It wasn’t until I was on a weekend get away to Bimini that it came to me. I was sitting in a restaurant and there were these amazing twisted driftwood partitions. The word association began once again, and that is when the word Vine came to mind. Cashmere and Vine Interiors, It was perfect! I felt the name completed captured the very essence of my design esthetic, and it also reminded me that design inspiration can be found everywhere. Cashmere and Vine Interiors was born that very day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been an Interior Designer for 22 years. Having a flair for design, I pursued my passion and opened my own Interior Design business in 2001. I have built a wonderful reputation with my clients, and my business flourished in residential and commercial markets. I work with my clients to create designs for their lifestyles. I believe that a home should be warm, comfortable, and livable. My job as a designer is to guide my clients into designing what they envision. I would best describe her style as classy warm modern, but living in Florida, I like to call it Casual Beach Elegance. I love the feeling that is created when I incorporate contrasting textures in a room. Bringing in opposing elements into any space adds a wonderful balance. It’s the Cashmere & Vine concept,”
Spanning across several states I have worked with a variety of clients from commercial fortune 500 companies, home builders and prominent medical facilities.
Branching out onto national television in 2008, I was chosen out of 10,000 applicants to appear on HGTV’S Design Star; a reality based competition where designers vie for their own show on HGTV. As a finalist, on the show, it not only solidified my passion for design, it also made me realize how much I enjoyed the television production process and allowed me to pursue a career as a host for design television. I have worked on several design productions and with design websites on various design segments and shows over the years. In 2019 I taped a series for HDTV called Best of Show with my friend and colleague, Danny Russo.
To this day, I truly enjoy what I do. I have always had a passion for design and have a creative spirit. My job as a design allows me to fulfill the need to be creative and create amazing spaces every day.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The idea of running my own company came after the birth of my last child. This may sound completely cliché, but I was watching an episode of Oprah rocking him to sleep. The show topic was about turning your passion into your career. As I sat there rocking him, I looked down at his precious face and began thinking that in just five short years, he would be off to school. Plus, I knew he was my last child. I began to wonder what I was going to do. I asked myself: what is your passion? At that time, I had just moved into a new home in a new neighborhood. I loved picking out the selections for my home and all the interior furnishings. I would frequently help friends in the neighborhood put their rooms together as well and I truly enjoyed it.
Over the next several weeks I did my research. I read anything I could find that related to design and the design world. It was then that I realized this had really sparked my creative side. With just a dream and a five-year vision plan, I asked a friend of mine to partner with me in the venture. Within a few months, we had opened our own Interior Design Business.
I was determined on this new career path, and on one Saturday afternoon, we set out on a mission. We cold called four builders. Out of those four cold calls, we received three new clients. With the designing of the three model homes, this led to residential clients and then an opportunity to design three homes in a Home-A-Rama Showcase (taking first place in the show.) This all happened within the first year and I quickly realized following my passion had paid off. I also realized that the five-year plan I had quickly accelerated and I would now have to juggle being a full-time business owner and mom. Twenty two years later I am still here and I am thankful that I pushed through and never gave up on my dream.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I am so lucky being in the business I am. I get to work with clients creating their dream homes or dream spaces. That is the best part of my job! I also turned my passion into my career. I think that this has helped me to build a wonderful reputation with my clients. In designing for my clients, I do just that; design for them and their lifestyles. My passion for creating spaces and helping my clients realize their desired design for their home makes the design process exciting and fun for them. I work closely with all my clients and provide them the very best design experience.
