We were lucky to catch up with Trinity Swift recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Trinity thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
The first client I had was from an instagram post. At the time, I was interning at Coalition DJs Tennessee and I was required to post artists content on my story. The posts promoted artists who were on the previous Sunday zoom call called, “New Music Sunday.” Typically, the artists liked posts and kept it pushing, but on this particular day one of the artists I posted actually responded to the story post. He said thank you and asked if I had any advice. He also explained how he was networking and trying to work with new people. I told him his music was good, which is the truth, but he needed to capitalize more on social media because majority of people look at the artist before they listen to the music. After exchanging a few more words on Instagram, he asked if he could send me a few more songs to get a female opinion on his lyrics. I gave him my email and checked them out. I reiterated that his music was good and that he needed to work on visuals. Before the day was over, he was asking me to be his manager because of how I was about his music. I tried to decline at first because I was still in college, but after meeting him face to face the next day after his message, I accepted. He paid me that same day to get started but honestly that day was such a huge moment in my career.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My long term goal has always been a record label; I wanted to create a record label that gives artists the resources and freedom to create timeless music. 3Peat Entertainment is an independent label based in Nashville, TN that offers production, management, marketing, and consultation for signed and independent artists. The name 3Peat comes from the 3 P’s that I think people should live by: Purpose, Persistence, and Patience. Make sure there’s purpose behind your actions; stay persistent when pursuing your goals; and when things are not going as plan, be patient. The thing I am most proud of is the trust we build with the artists we worked with as a company.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki changed my perspective a lot. I stopped looking at my jobs as a way to pay bills and started focusing on the skills I could learn from the jobs. I know the book talks about many things, but that’s what stuck out for me. Being able to apply the skills I’ve learned from previous jobs has helped my entrepreneurial growth tremendously.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth and client recommendations have been my best source of new clients. I am greatly appreciative of the support from past and current clients.
