Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trinity Higgs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Trinity, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My life’s journey is the reason I came up with the idea of How to be Dope AF. This was the process of me reflecting upon my choices in life and the reason why I wasn’t experiencing a life fulfilled. My father was tragically and suddenly killed when I was 9 years old. Being raised by a foreign Korean mom without any influences in American culture drove me to wanting to live life from what I learned in movies, television and books. As I approached adulthood, I started working as a hairdresser at 19 years of age. With little life experience, yet naturally positive, I wasn’t in my authenticity and that created a shaky foundation that took me through the next 2 decades on an “act first think later approach to life.” My nature was being an escape artist, meaning professional party girl; however my work behind the chair was my one constant I would never let falter. After a relationship in my 20s, having a daughter at 28, another foray into a few years of partying I finally cleaned my shit up (on my own. I’m very disciplined when I decide to shift) and married someone whom I believed at the time would offer me safety and security because I was searching for it outside of myself. In the 5 1/2 years I was married, I had two children, one of whom had a very serious illness and was on life support.( Thank you universe he’s fine and well and thriving like any 11 year old.) It was during his illness that gave me the wake up call I needed to start making choices aligned with my true source. After a year from his recovery I finally was released, yes released aka divorced from my husband at 40 years old. I knew At that time I needed and desired to shift the energies in my mind and heart to start living a life that was aligned with who I really Am. Because of my journey into healing and therapy I felt inspired to create a course and become a certified mentor to those who are or have experienced the feeling that they’re not living a life that sets their souls’ on fire. It’s my passion to help others awaken to their true selves and start truly living a life that they love. When it comes to helping others become fully embodied in their authenticity while simultaneously understanding what it means to be Dope AF, is what excites me most! Living a life you truly love. My unique approach is helping others release from the things that are holding them back to create space for the life of their dreams!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a natural born people pleaser, and seeing how that wasn’t serving me up until that point in my life, I became focused on what I wanted to see show up in my daily existence. It became abundantly clear I had To shift the thoughts I was Thinking and started aligning with the energy of what I wanted To manifest in my life. Through years of research and working with my psychotherapist, I desired to create and design programs that would help others that may not have the resources, knowledge or know how to begin the journey of happiness and inner peace. The path to a life of joy does take steps that can be uncomfortable for those who have been conditioned to live life a particular way that they believed would bring them the life that truly fulfilled them. I teach a methodology of mindset practices in addition to the action steps that will help release past patterns and start creating new neuro pathways in the brain to experience life in an entire new light. I’m so proud of my own personal journey and flowing presently through my life experience: life is happening through me not to me. What I feel sets me apart is that I’ve let go of other’s opinions and truly give zero’s Fs and live my life on my terms. I wake up every single day excited to see what adventures are ahead of me and knowing I’m a co-creator in all that I experience.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve been working behind the chair for almost 3 decades. As a single mom of 3 I had an epiphany a few years ago that standing on my feet into the second half of my life wasn’t going to be sustainable or provide the lifestyle I crave for me and my family. Through the right “moment” situations and having the “unlicensed therapist” roll in my clients’ lives, this opened up the idea of becoming a life coach.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
My challenging lessons in life have revolved around my money story and experiencing true unconditional love. I’ve comeback from a bankruptcy in my late 20s then to endure being financially in the red after my divorce. Since then I’ve been able to recreate my business behind the chair and also having the income to invest in myself in my new business! As far as love and relationships, after realizing how I never wanted to experience the catastrophic pain my mom did with the loss of my dad, I was always looking for love in the wrong places. The two relationships I had that resulted with children, (which were gifts in turbulent times,) never felt like how I believed it should feel. Once I healed my heart and forgave myself for my past choices I attracted my life person. He is unapologetic to his truth, authentic in all the ways, supports me in all of my endeavors and lights up my soul. And we have so much fun!!
