Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trinelle (Elle) McHughes – Thomas . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Trinelle (Elle) , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
My first dollar ever created in my profession has been under Michael Duck Casting. It was an amazing experience working on a project that was already green lit for Netflix. I would have done it for free, and that’s how I truly knew that the film industry was my passion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my business not knowing I was starting a business. My 13 year-old daughter wanted to be a model and we had no clue on how to break into the modeling industry. We went to one of the largest agencies in Houston and after 2 years, no gigs. I started looking for auditions and castings for my daughter and that is when she began to land major gigs, and from there I was helping to book friends and family in major commercials, film, and television. I knew I had a niche in this industry and seeing my friends & family succeed made me feel like I could turn this into something else, and that’s when Gritty Entertainment & Hughes Casting was born. My first casting experience was assisting on a short film called “Wise Love” filmed in Conyers, Georgia. This was an amazing experience because I got to break down how everything would typically work when casting. Since I started my business, I have had the pleasure of working on projects such as “Mo” (Netflix Series), “The Coast”(Feature Film), Pee in a Pod, “VH1 My True Crime Story” and many other projects. The business of entertainment gives me so much joy, that I began writing my first short film called “McCarthy Tree” and it has won 2 awards in screenwriting in Sci- Fi Fantasy from The Script Lab & Filmmatic.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
“Creativity is the natural order of life and life is energy.
I think everyone is born creative, however, I think some people give up before they can see what they desire come to pass, and that’s why it’s said that the richest place in the world is the graveyard because this is the place where hopes and dreams that were never accomplished have died.
As a creative sometimes we are our own worst critic. Our own inner voice is sometimes louder than our opposition.
Being a creative person we are always second guessing ourselves. One thing that helps me calm the noise is prayer, meditation, and speaking what I want into the universe.
Creativity will always wake up fear, because it’s something most people avoid. Nobody wants to fail. Embracing failures and learning from them is sometimes easier said then done. But it can be mastered through prayer, intuition and persistence.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most rewarding part of being a creative is that you have an opportunity to create your deepest desires. You have the opportunity to connect with people through film and television. As a new writer it has been an amazing journey of just writing characters and really digging in deep. I think it’s important to develop those characters.
You want viewers to really understand the story and connect with the characters.
