We recently connected with Trillizos Torres Pacheco and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Trillizos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk that we’ve taken in our lives both as individuals and as triplets was to be artists, all three of us! To be honest, a degree in Fine or Visual Arts is not something that will guarantee a weekly income or constant salary compared to other professional careers, but our decision to take our talent further than a simple hobby was a turning point in our lives, even though we were aware of the challenges that an artist might face.
Although we grew up in a poor family in Tijuana, we never lacked the love and support of our parents. Perhaps they did not buy fancy things or give us money to spend carelessly, but they did teach us the most important thing in life- “No matter how difficult the path to success may be, you must always work hard until the last drop of sweat because there is no other way to fulfill your dreams.” Nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy.
When it was time to choose a university, we were told many times we should think carefully about what we wanted to become. If we went for the arts, we would barely have a chance to survive. However, we always kept in mind the wise words of our parents, so we decided to take the risk and guess what? We not only made it but it has allowed us to make a good living and even travel to Italy, The Netherlands, and Cuba for artistic residencies. We never thought such a marvelous thing would happen to us by just wanting our talent to thrive!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We Leonel, Lorenzo and Luis Torres Pacheco (Nayarit, Mexico, 1996) are triplets and we consider ourselves as a unique artistic entity.
From a very young age we knew that our professional path would have to do with collaboration. Such thinking was developing and gaining strength as we progressed in our artistic projects. We saw that our works together had a much stronger energy than those that we worked separately. So, our own experience led us to a certain path which became so relevant in our training that it became the driving force behind our production and this has defined us as a natural artistic collective.
Painting is the expressive form that we use the most in our work, which generally has the characteristic of being figurative with strong references to reality, to the metaphysical and to the fantasy, with properties of hyper-realism and photorealism. However, we do not confine ourselves to a single style and/or technique but we also really like to experiment with new production methods because we strongly believe that letting ourselves be carried away by the circumstances that life itself presents us can lead to new results that can even complement the production and creative process.
When working on a piece, we settle ourselves in such an organic way that we think it would be something not so natural for others. In fact, the positions we take are even unconscious but it is the way we feel comfortable when executing a work. The planning of the image to be painted comes before producing a work, that is, the compositions, colors and shapes, digital sketches in general, we previously discuss them not in a round table but in a triangular one to see all the details. And once the digital sketch is defined, we start drawing on the canvas and immediately painting, and here, the magic begins!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There are many benefits of being triplet artists. To begin with, we are our own bosses, three bosses actually! We also play several roles within our organic artistic collective called Trillizos Torres Pacheco (other than being creators/painters) such as: managers, administrators, graphic designers, marketers, social media promoters, material providers, drivers, janitors, etc… in order to complete this whole scheme of being artists and running this profession/business as well as possible.
All the work is divided into three parts, but it does not mean that we have much time to slack off. On the contrary, we take advantage of our ability to triple our creative energy and channel it into upcoming painting projects and as many other activities as we can, for our personal growth in the artistic community.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
From our point of view as painters, purchasing artwork more often from artists would undoubtedly help them tremendously -it is as simple as that. It does not matter if it is a small and inexpensive piece, you are actually contributing to paying an artist’s needs. For example: groceries, utility bills, or an important tool such as a brush, jars of paints, a laptop or tablet, or whatever might be truly useful for the development of their projects. As people often say, “Small actions can make a huge difference!”
