We recently connected with Tricia Padich and have shared our conversation below.
Tricia, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
It’s difficult to be inspired when you’re sitting at a cubicle! As a designer I’ve always found that my best ideas occur when I’m out in the world. Inspiration can strike when I’m out in nature, at a museum or even just sitting at the local cafe people watching. It would be great if corporate companies recognized this and allowed designers to get away from their desks more.

Tricia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the owner and creative director for Gamine Studios. The concept of Gamine Studios came from my own desire to wear lingerie that is as comfortable as it is alluring. There is definitely a time and a place for those strappy ensembles but to be honest those tend to gather dust in my drawers. I wanted something that I could wear under work clothes during the day yet could transition effortlessly into nightwear. My hope is that this line will show you that beauty is a feeling as much as it is a visual representation.
I designed each piece in the collection with comfort, quality and beauty in mind. My hope is that these pieces will become treasured items in your wardrobe, not to be saved for special occasion, but to be worn whenever you need to feel as beautiful as you are!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The first time I applied to design school I wasn’t accepted. I remember feeling so devastated because I was so excited to have finally figured what I wanted to do with my life and thought this meant I wasn’t good enough.
Luckily I didn’t give up. I made an appointment with an admissions counselor and asked for feedback on my application. She gave me some constructive criticism and I spent the next year working on my portfolio. I cried when I received the acceptance letter. One of my proudest moments was graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started Gamine Studios I thought the best way to control the quality was to fulfill the orders myself. I soon realized that doing my own production was incredibly exhausting and left me no time to design new things or grow the business! It also lead to some pretty intense burnout. I am now in the process of hiring a production partner to fulfill the orders so I can focus on designing the next collection!
