We caught up with the brilliant and insightful TRICIA MLADINEO a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi TRICIA, thanks for joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Yes, I find it is essential for my creative side to take vacations. I make sure to confirm all upcoming appointments and send any important messages before I head out. However, there may be a day or 2 that I open up that lab top and check my emails while on vacation. Just to make sure I don’t miss anything important, but I quickly get right back to enjoying where I am at. We work so hard that we must treat ourselves and take a break, Those breaks help you to recharge the body, mind and keep your business going. Start by taking a day for your self in nature and increase the days to actual mini vacations. Give yourself a check list to finish before you head out. No excuses, you finished your work, now time to do you!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been in the beauty industry for 23 years now and it all started at a young age. I always knew I wanted a career in art as I found it amusing to participate in tap dance, ballet, drill team and frequent art museum field trips. It really fueled my passion for the art of beauty makeup. Knowing that the everyday woman may need constant beauty guidance and all around pampering is what encouraged me to go full throttle with my business. Providing onsite makeup & hairstyling services for women that feel helpless and frustrated while trying to get ready for special events, really helps them feel at ease when I arrive. During our appointment I share tips about beauty and be that listening ear if they want to talk. I make sure they leave feeling educated, fabulous and refreshed.
247Makeup also provides one on one private makeup lessons which helps boost that makeup application confidence.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a makeup artist, is making my clients feel like a million bucks. When they let know me about all the compliments they received and how amazing, pretty, confident they felt, it truly makes me feel happy and full filled. My clients have hard working jobs such as in the medical field, longshoreman, police officers, moms, car takers, etc which makes them very tired and they want to have the ability to relax while getting pampered. They tell me this makes their day, it is their self care and I really value that because I want them to feel special and taken care of.
I also love seeing the glow come to life while enhancing their natural beauty!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
By far, word of mouth. Word of mouth is 80% along with the other 20% coming from social media & yelp. I make it a point to find how the customer heard about me or they tell me right away how they were referred by someone they know. It has been the best advertisement for me through out my whole beauty career.
I love to hear the name of who referred me and reach out to that person right away to say Thank you!
