We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Trey Gibson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Trey below.
Trey, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
With music it’s really about your influences and who you grew up listening to. My pops listened to mainly jazz and old school hip hop and my mom neosoul and gospel. So Im inspired by certain chords and sounds which isn’t really something I learn, it just happened. Writing and rapping are different though. Practicing is the move. Listening to great musicians you realize they make difficult things look easy. I’m always just working towards that.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a music artist. I’m mainly a songwriter and producer and been making music since I was 19 and started at the end of my sophomore year in college. It’s my goal to express myself in a way that others can feel and resonate with. I’m also apart of the creative collective, Inner Circle. We’re a global collective that makes unique music and experiences.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It would help consumers enjoy art and make experiences more meaningful when you understand the need for art. After you understand the need, you can then value and support artist genuinely. I ,myself, am starting to understand more and more the value that comes with my passion. Artist bring expression into the world. You NEED that. The maker was clearly an artist. The way that the sky can evoke hundreds of emotions. That’s what artist do. We express things that then the public can interpret whatever way they need.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think a lot of people don’t get that artists need to create. It’s not really a hobby. When we don’t it can lead to a feeling of not pursuing one’s purpose. I can really only speak for myself. I rather put myself in a position, physically and mentally, to be able to constantly create than most other things.
