We were lucky to catch up with Trey Branch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Trey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
It’s kind of crazy how I started. I always wanted to be in front of the camera. Being an actor like Denzel or Will Smith was always a dream. However the interest faded once I started hanging out with more creatives. First, I would like to give credit to my fellow creatives who helped me pursue my passion from the beginning. Justin, Emmanuel, Joseph, Ross, Vinh, and Diego. When I started out, I saw them holding a camera and I was so interested in their process. The content they would create was so incredible that I quickly fell in love with the art.
Knowing what I know now, the most important lesson I wish I stuck with was to not be afraid of creating content and putting it online. This is an important skill to have as a creative because no form of art is perfect and we all have to start somewhere. Starting on small projects in my room or with my friends helped me grow and learn more.
The biggest obstacles that I’ve had to overcome were my own insecurities. I am still battling them with every piece of content I make. My insecurities are a huge block on my creativity and it can be really hard sometimes to produce art. However, I have learned that I can push through with the support of my family and friends to continue to pursue my dreams. Also sleep! I don’t sleep enough and I recommend all artists need to sleep more.
Trey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Trey Branch. I am from Montgomery County, MD. Shout out to the DMV! I am a cinematographer/photographer based in Los Angeles, CA creating content, whether that be short films, music videos, photography, etc. More of my passion projects I want to create are narrative stories based around social and economic issues, mental health, and physiological thrillers.
I have worked for various brands, influencers, artists, and entrepreneurs. The beauty in my work is being able to meet new people and making their vision’s come true. My photography is something that I am really proud of because I tend to stay away from most studio photography and use natural environments. I love blending an individual’s authentic beauty to the world around them. Finding the natural compositions are so fun to find and capture.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to create stories that have a lasting impact on future generations. I prioritize my content to be future-proof. Every story I make carries a message and every frame has a meaning. This is my driving goal for all my work. I also want to be able to bring out the artist in everyone. If you have an idea, goal or dream, I want to use my talents to help you achieve your vision.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Facebook groups, Instagram pages, and Tik Tok! Creatives follow and support each other! This industry is all about networking. You cannot do anything by yourself.
