We recently connected with Trevor Myers and have shared our conversation below.
Trevor, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
“Taking You Beyond The Project”
Rycon General Contracting gives back to women in the KC Metro and surrounding areas fighting Breast Cancer. Every customer Rycon services is part of a bigger purpose than just a simple project. These customers are helping others in our community and making a difference. Rycon General Contracting pays 100% of the taxes for every woman who receives money. Individuals reach out to us with various family members, friends, teachers etc.. who are fighting this battle and share their stories. These are the women in our community and we stand behind them.

Trevor, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Trevor Myers Owner of Rycon General Contracting. I am 32 years old married to my beautiful wife Crystal. We have two wonderful children Conner (7) and Rylee (4). We have two fur babies Holly (Toy Poodle) and Franklin (English Bulldog). I currently enjoy Cross Fit and Mexican food. I didn’t have things handed to me growing up, hard work and perseverance has been the root of my existence. I always knew I wanted to own my own business, but didn’t know what field. I have worked 24 different jobs in my many careers. The one thing that I love the most is working for people and not for the product. So the construction field was perfect for encompassing people with true problems and figuring out a solution to resolve the problem for the better.
I provide roofing, exterior painting and gutters/downspouts services. We work insurance claims with hail and wind damage to fix homes.
Giving back directly to individuals in our community and covering the taxes sets my company apart from others.
During the process of starting my own business and the birth of my daughter, a dear friend of our family was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I was holding my daughter the night she was born when we found out the hard news of our best friend. She didn’t want to tell us the news because she didn’t want to “ruin” our night with the birth of our daughter. But something magical happened that night looking down at my daughter saying to myself I hope that you have friends that would be there for you if this ever happened to you. That is when I first went to social media to start a go fund me account and raised over $5,000 to help her out. I realized in that moment that my business should have a meaning and a purpose. So I worked very hard to build the business to raise some money as quickly as possible since we were limited in time. I was able to hit my first biggest goal to give her the first $1,000 from my business. A proud moment is the fact we have helped 5 women in almost 3 years in business.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
So I finally took a gamble and I was able to take a loan against myself of $10,000 to start my business. It was one of the hardest and scariest things I had ever done, but knew my family had my back. Looking back on that moment, was the best moment of my life. I was able to pay myself back the next year in full which was very humbling.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I have learned that by working extremely hard, and providing a great service while at the same time taking my clients beyond the project that referrals have been the key component to my business. I look forward to the next steps of my business in growth to hire associates to build more business.
