Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trevon Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Trevon, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
When I started this journey I never really thought about what this was doing for my legacy. I was in the curiosity stage when I decided on starting Trey Photography. I started with the simplest name I could, then I focused more on mastering the fine arts and details that go into photography. As time went on and I experienced the highs and lows of having my creative passion becoming a business. I cannot tell you the best way to make create a lasting legacy for generations to come. I go into every photography session with the same mindset. I want to give my clients the top quality images possible while creating a memorable moment they can look back on with joy. I hope that my legacy will be remembered as someone who chose what they loved to do and managed to live a comfortable life. Photography was not the most profitable or conventional option that I was presented when I first started. I am glad that I chose to create my own path and now I can leave something that will last long after I am gone.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Trevon Davis founder of Trey Photography. I provide photography services for any occasions you can think of. From portraits for your portfolio to capturing memorable moments at your next event. I have a wide range of work that can be tailored to each client’s specific needs.
I believe what sets me apart is the attention to details and the quality of the work I produce. I have leaned away from being the photographer with the most posts. Quantity over quality is not the approach that I have for this photography business. I want each client’s experience to be more that just the photos they receive at the end of the session.
I am most proud of my growth as a photographer and the growth of my clients over the past year. Each time I finish editing my newest set of images I can see how far I have come. I was looking at my old images the other day and I was astonished at the change over 2 years. The clients growth has been astonishing as well. I have reached a point where my clients and I are comfortable with the value I have set for my services. This is one of the most comforting feelings when you reach this point.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I first started Trey Photography I was actually renting a Canon 80D from my school. Each weekend I would check out the camera and go out and take photos of everything I could get in front of a lens. Once I learned the basics I felt it was time for my own camera. I worked as a referee at the local YMCA in my city every Friday night and Saturday morning. After a few months I saved up for my first DSLR camera. It was a Canon T5 with a 18-55mm lens. After I bought this camera, I started charging $50 for prom and graduation photography sessions. This camera and business plan helped me make the initial capital to launch Trey Photography the summer before my freshman year of college. Here I am 3 years later and I can say this is one of the most profitable investments I have made so far.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There is one particular mission that I have driving my creative journey. My mission is to get better and learn something new everyday. This is important for my creative journey since the landscape of photography is changing as we speak. Everyone has to find something to keep themselves relevant and still have their own style. This is the reason I constantly study different techniques for editing and lighting even when I do not have a shoot. I have even found myself going back to images from past shoots and editing them with the new techniques I have learned through my experiences. The more I focus on this mission I will never become complacent with myself and stop growing.
