Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trent Denson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Trent, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back at internships and apprenticeships can be interesting, because there is so much variety in people’s experiences – and often those experiences inform our own leadership style. Do you have an interesting story from that stage of your career that you can share with us?
So after graduating college in 2015, I was hired as an apprentice/intern with the Atlanta production company McIntosh Bros. shadowing, shooting, and editing their projects with clients in Atlanta. While I didn’t get paid it was still a valuable experience being out in the field and shoutout to my guy Javier for giving me a shot and helping me improve my skillset in film/video production. Thanks to him my shooting and editing has more personality if that makes sense. To this day I still work with him whenever he needs extra help on a project.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Trent Denson, a self-proclaimed creative creator based in the Metro Atlanta area. I got into this field as growing up I knew I always wanted to do something creative with my life so I attended the University of West Georgia and majored in Mass Communications with a focus in Film & Video Production and tried to dip into everything I could relating to everything media at school. Since then I’ve been blessed to shoot at such events SXSW, A3C, work alongside other buzzing creatives and recently got hired as an editor for the company Comedy Hype while still continuing to do my own thing. Even though I earned my degree a few years ago, I’m continuing to grind as the film/video industry evolves everyday. I personally shoot and/or edit short form content such as behind-the-scenes videos, promos, recaps, etc. for creatives, brands, and businesses in the U.S. though I’d down for an international shoot soon once I get my passport. All I want people to know is that I create with the intentions of making them look like a boss and I try to bring good vibes to the table. Vibes is a word I use a lot. Overall I just enjoy creating with the camera in my hands with people with said good vibes and I honestly can’t see myself doing anything else because well I don’t like a lot of things.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Man honestly YouTube should’ve been my friend from the get go. You can really learn anything from that site and when it comes to my career path it would’ve helped as far as refreshing my skills, camera recommendations, shooting/editing techniques, all of that. There are also other sites that would’ve helped me on my job search along with LinkedIn and Indeed for getting my foot in the door. Speaking of getting my foot out there, while not really a resource, my networking skills could’ve been a lot better too. Instead of waiting for people to give me a shot I should’ve been more assertive and put myself and skills out there even if they say no.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My overall goal is to work as a cinematographer in film and TV because I love to shoot and I know I have a great eye for creating amazing visuals.
