We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Trenise Miller . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Trenise below.
Trenise, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
My modeling career as a whole has been misunderstood. As a plus sized model with a world of confidence, I try to share and teach other women, especially plus sized women, to have the same confidence within themselves. Some people say that I’m glorifying obesity instead of seeing I’m teaching self love no matter what size. If we can’t learn to love ourselves at our worst, regardless of what we classify as being the worst, we will never learn to truly love ourselves at our best. I have learned to take the good and bad with this career but in the end I still depend on me and I will always choose to LOVE MYSELF FIRST.
Trenise, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by my model name Bossy The BBW Doll.. I am a plus sized model, fashionista, brand ambassador, domestic violence advocate, advocate for autism awareness and community service activist. My platform is fighting against body shaming and bullying. I love being a community activist, always ready to serve God and my community, especially the homeless and less fortunate.
I am a Chicago native and resident of AZ for the past 10 1/2 years. I have been Modeling on and off since 1996, but my career got a boost in 2014 after an epic photoshoot with celebrity Photographer Solomon Abrams with BGI Photography in Chicago. I take pride in the work I do as a model.
I have worked and walked in many fashion, hair and runway shows. I have been featured in magazines and on book covers. I’ve hosted many parties, trade shows, and public speaking events. I have traveled all over for photo shoots and shows including New York, Arizona, Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas.
I most enjoy working with the local Photographers like Cheryl Dunn with Visual Mischief and Earl Tubbs with Contrast Photography here in Az. Also working with the local designers and hair stylists including being a brand ambassador for Designers Tameca Howell with Kingdom Stylz International, Dee Riley with Thickummsdotcom, SRenae Washington with Stylez by SRenae and award winning celebrity hair stylist Peair Scott with Hair by Peair. Also ambassador for Dallas’s own celebrity designer Jente Carter with Denim by Jente
The work I’m most proud of is my work in the community spreading awareness about autism, being an advocate for domestic violence overcomers and many hours on the front line doing community service and feeding the homeless. The best part is my kids right there alongside with me.
I’m hoping this year will present many more opportunities and open more doors for me to put the spotlight on plus-sized modeling. I’m also eager to get back out there doing more community service.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that is driving my journey are the woman in the shadows. The women who hide because of lack of confidence. The women who have been bullied and body shamed. Those women keep me going so that I can continue to get out there and teach them to love themselves. To find the perfections in their imperfections. To find the confidence to step out in that little dress, those tight jeans or that swim suit they have hiding in their closet. To be free to live with their heads high and confidence to keep going regardless of what anyone else has to say.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a model has to be the freedom to be me. The feedback I get from ladies who follow me and share their stories of how following me helped them find their confidence, their motivation and their self love. Regardless of how hard life gets, how much negativity I receive, those ladies and their stories will keep me going.
