Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trena Wilson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Trena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
As a Central Florida Native, I’ve always been a big dreamer. I inherited my entrepreneur spirit from both of my parents. If anyone would have ever told me that I would own 1 business I would have probably believed them, however I would have never imagined me having the pleasure of being a Serial Business Owner.
I began my Entrepreneur journey while I was in middle school, and it continued on while I attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. I enjoyed helping others, whether it was by providing personal care, or business consulting services.
After I began my career in Business, I enjoyed working in the Healthcare, Credit and Pharmaceutical Industries. While working, I gained business ethics, financial literacy and leadership skills that I was able to implement in my very own businesses.
After learning that my grandmother experienced a diabetic coma in 2001, it enlighten me on the necessity of how important the elderly and disabled population really need a home health aide, certified nurse assistant or nurse. If I could turn back the hands of time, my grandmother would still be here if she had the extra health care services to assist her with managing her diabetes and nutrition.
After doing several years of research on state license requirements and the process on how to start a home care agency, Comforting, Loving & Helping Hands Agency was birthed. I wanted to be able to provide the services to other families that my grandmother didn’t get the pleasure of experiencing. To this day we are able to not only provide services to the elderly population, but also to new mothers, disabled children and disabled adults. I get excited when I see the joy and relief that it brings to families that are burned out and overwhelmed by the daily tasks that they have to take on. We aim to build long-term relationships with our clients and work with passion which provides the most effective way of care.
While building the home care agency, I continued to work full-time because my goal wast to go into the business debt free with out taking out any loans. I risked giving up personal time, several late nights of sleep, energy and a tremendous amount of family time in order to create a strategic business plan that would be effective and profitable. I risked being at all of my kids different milestones in school and sports because I saw a vision that would make our lives better in the long run. I wanted my children to really see that hard work and very little play does pay off.
After a couple of years of building my personal savings to work full time for the business, I began to doubt myself with thoughts of failure and lack of success. I started thinking about my full-time job, and the steady paycheck that I may not have as a new and upcoming business. I thought about not being able to fulfill my children’s necessities if the business doesn’t make any money. Everything that could go wrong in a business I thought about before I gave my 2 week notice to my manager. It was at the moment when I sat down to talk to my manager about my next steps that she reminded me that I am intelligent and can definitely do it. I took a deep breath affirmed to myself that I Can Do IT and took the biggest risk that I don’t regret!
Years later 5 businesses have been birthed and another one is in the making. The risks never stop!
