We were lucky to catch up with Tremi Redd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tremi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindest thing someone has said to me? Hmmm. I would have to say this comment was stated after my 2nd live show. I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Elijah Connor from the hit show “Grown and Gospel”. We had an amazing time talking about his career, life, challenges and much more. Again, it was my 2nd show on live tv, so I was pretty nervous. He spoke to the owner of the studio and said “My energy was up because of how she greeted me. How she opened it up. It’s kind of like somebody playing for you at church. If they can’t play I don’t want to sing, but she makes people want to open up. She makes people want to go”. I’ve been thanked many times for giving others the platform to be heard, seen and most importantly appreciated. That alone is the most meaningful to me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been in production for 3 years now. I started picking up a camera while I was still in recovery from a horrible car accident. During this time, I had to learn how to walk again so I had lots of free time as you can imagine. I started as a Production Assistant to Videographer to Director of Photography. I recently released a new web reality show with my Executive Producer Lando King called “The Rise Atlanta” about upcoming artist and singers that are making a name for themselves here in Atlanta. We were doing a radio interview with Gee on “Candid Conversations” and the owner of Kluster Media Studios Darrel Davis came to me after the interview and express interest in working with me. He explained that he’d been following my TikTok platform and saw how much of an influence I am on the community. I began to research and study those that have talk shows and immediately realized how this could grow me as an individual.
Every week, I get better and I know its only an amount of time before big networks begin to talk. I believe I am the first black lesbian with her own live tv show and that is what I am most proud of. I fought so hard to be accepted and now I am breaking barriers.
The biggest thing I can ask for is support! Tune in to KLUSTER TV on Roku EVERY Tuesday a 8pm for “Trippin’ With Tremi”. You can also watch it ON DEMAND on the Kluster TV app. If you don’t have a Roku, you can always go to klustertv.com.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Trippin’ With Tremi wouldn’t be as grand as it is if it wasn’t for my social media presence. I decided to get on TikTok simply because I’m always behind the camera. People would always see my name in the credits but never knew a face to put with the name. Once I began posting on TikTok, the platform grew fast. I didn’t realize how many lesbians in the community had the same mindset as myself. My audience grew organically. I look at my platform as my family. I think the reason my platform has grown so much has to do with the fact that I’m always authentic. The good, bad, flaws, mistakes and growth can all be seen.
My advice to anyone just starting to build social media presence would be always be genuine and keep in mind everyone does not have your best interests at heart.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect has to be the appreciation I received after every show. How the guests may feel seen and heard because of my show. How many tell me I have brought them through rough periods of life… I must say those are the best parts of being in this industry.
