We recently connected with Treisha Marcoux and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Treisha, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Yes I definitely wished I would have started sooner. My world was a professional makeup artist. I got to do the make up for a mermaid one day and I decided to try myself with photos and did some gigs soon after.
Treisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born on the island in Puerto Rico, came to Florida when I was two. And have always been around mermaids. My mom had her bathroom always in mermaids. My Barbies were mermaids and I had dolls. I always have always love mermaids started with my mom. So you can say it’s been around me my whole life. As a grown up had monofins mermaid skins had all kinds of colors for me and my daughter. Her love of mermaids came from me. She had her first one when she was 5. Of course I was with her. She learned how to swim in a tail and she became really good. She’s a very strong swimmer, but safety was first of course water safety is the most important thing, Especially when it comes to mermaid tails, a child should know how to swim Before they even consider getting into a tail. And I taught her to take it off in water quickly.
We got a mertailor tail with a Silicon monofin when she got older. And she swims in it like it’s attached to her. She’s really good and we practice and swim all the time.
I love doing mermaiding with my daughter we are both in CPR and AED she’s 12 years old and is my helper. She helps me with parties and set up and she swims at the parties and she’s very good in her tail. And we have been in many publications. We were in Fins magazine twice and interviewed for other publications, We’ve done photo shoots,,kids parties did a mermaid camp for my daughters dance studio Dancing for A Difference and a event.
The owner is Sara battaglia she runs a nonprofit that makes dancing available to all kids even ones with disabilities. My daughter is also an assistant there.
I’m also a make up artist so when we do parties with the kids sometimes we put on make up on them with parents permission of course, For the Boys with do pirate themes. We read to the kids, play games and we sing songs they always have a blast. We love seeing their smiles.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our goal is to make a name for ourselves that have happy kids and families that continue to recommend us so we can continue to grow.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The most important thing about building an audience is always staying connected. Everyone in the mermaiding community is completely different. They are all excepting and we speak to a lot of Mermaid’s around the world. Communicating and introducing yourself leads you to getting to know more people and then your name gets out there.
