We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Treaza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Treaza, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I definitely wished I had started pursuing my musical career earlier. Sometimes I feel I have a lot less time and way more responsibilities now that may take away from my music and my business. Although, I have been singing all of my life. I’ve been in different girl groups here and there, I just stopped everything and settled down. I had a lot of self doubt when I was younger and talked myself out of everything. However, The crazy part is the older I get, I don’t regret it. Everything I conquered gave me the tools to be everything I am today and who I will be in the future. My sons are the motivation I need to keep going and they help me see the world completely different than before. Gods timing is impeccable and he knew exactly what I needed. I know everything happens for a reason. I know I’m who and where I’m suppose to be.

Treaza, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a singer and songwriter born and raised in STL . I have been singing my whole life but just started releasing music 3 years ago. Even more recently I changed my name from Taya to Treaza simply because I wanted my name to represent how I have grown internally. I am so proud of how far I have come into this industry even though I know it’s just the beginning. It’s hard to not sway into the image everyone wants or thinks is best for you but I stand firm in being my authentic self visually and musically. I believe what sets me apart from some is that my music will always have a message. Rather you can relate or not. I always tell a story with each song/project I release. It’s my most unique & effective writing skill and it helps me stay true to myself and my beliefs. Writing has always been therapeutic for me, so now that I’ve finally gained the confidence and created a platform to share it with others who can relate or simply appreciate that art means everything to me.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Everyday of this journey is an act of resilience. I am a woman who has struggled with self doubt in the past and here I am putting my most vulnerable self out to the world! LOL So everyday I have to make the choice to keep going, to keep staying true to me , to keep having faith and believing God has me covered every step of the way. As people we go through and grow through life trials regardless of anything . I had to adjust my lifestyle and pivot multiple times while still chasing my dreams and believing in myself when know one else was. That’s true resilience to me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative currently is two things. One, simply knowing that there are people who relate and love my music. When people come to me and tell me “this hit home for me” or “I relate so much” that means a lot and sometimes is just the fuel I need to keep going.
The ultimate reward though is honestly being in the mist of it. The very fact that I am doing this successfully, while being a mom, while being a business owner, while having all other responsibilities in life is so incredible to me. I never though I would be capable of doing ALL of this at once and now that I am.. it’s the most rewarding feeling ever. It makes me incredibly proud of myself. It may sound cliche to others but when you have been dealt the cards I have in my life, doing what you love with the people you love is all the reward you need.
