We were lucky to catch up with Treasure Hance recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Treasure thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We’re on a mission to change the way people eat. Knowing where your food comes from and what goes into the process of how it gets to your plate is a vital part of creating healthier humans and a healthier planet.

Treasure, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Tucked into the Piney Woods of East Texas, The Farm at Bald Hill is a family-run operation committed to regenerative agriculture and sustainability—working with nature to provide healthy, clean, nutrient dense proteins for the community.
Justin split his childhood between Houston and East Texas. While the city offered excitement, it was the country that called to him. Early on, he was influenced by friends and family who valued healthy eating, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that he began to truly dig into what that meant—and how to achieve it. Countless books, articles, and (mostly healthy) meals later, he reached a turning point. He sold his IT company, moved to the country, and decided it was time to get his hands in the soil.
Treasure, on the other hand, grew up in Louisiana without a green thumb or a farming background. But she’s always had a deep concern for both nutrition and the environment. It only makes sense that her path would lead here. She’s currently pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability with a focus on agriculture, hoping to help other farms adopt regenerative practices that restore land and communities.
Together—with a little help from their loyal pack of farm dogs—Justin and Treasure raise grass-fed and finished beef and lamb, pastured heritage pork, chickens, and eggs.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Neither Justin nor Treasure grew up farming. Their paths to the land were winding—rooted not in tradition, but in a deep desire to live with more intention.
Treasure grew up in Louisiana with no farming background and, admittedly, not much of a green thumb. But what she did have was a lifelong concern for nutrition and the environment. Those passions kept leading her back to agriculture—the root of both problems and solutions. Now, she’s pursuing a master’s degree in sustainability with a focus on regenerative farming, determined to help others transition to practices that restore the land and rebuild food systems from the ground up.
Justin split his childhood between Houston and East Texas. The city brought excitement, but it was the stillness of the countryside that called to him. Over time, his interest in health and nutrition grew into something deeper. He began questioning not just what we eat, but how it’s raised—and at what cost to our bodies, our communities, and the environment. Eventually, the answers led him to a turning point: he sold his IT company, left the city behind, and chose a life that started with soil.
Their hands may be calloused now, but their purpose is clear: grow real food, heal the soil, and help others do the same.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
At the heart of everything we do is connection.
We didn’t get into farming just to raise animals—we did it to be part of something bigger. To close the gap between food and people. To help rebuild the trust that’s been lost between eaters and growers. And for us, that starts at the farmers market.
Each week, we show up not just to sell, but to talk. To listen. To answer questions about how our animals live, what they eat, why we do things the way we do—even when it’s harder or slower or more expensive. Because we believe transparency is the foundation of trust. When customers know exactly where their food comes from, and the care that went into raising it, it means more. It nourishes deeper.
We don’t make claims we can’t stand behind. No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just nutrient-dense, honestly raised meat and eggs from animals who lived as they should—on pasture, in sunshine, moved often, and respected always.
Over time, that kind of honesty builds something powerful. We’ve watched strangers become regulars, and regulars become friends. We’ve shared recipes, parenting stories, and weather complaints. We’ve held space for the joy of a good meal and the grief of an empty seat at the table. That’s the magic of the market—it’s not just a transaction. It’s a relationship.
And as our customer base grows, it’s not because of slick marketing or fancy packaging. It’s because people come back. They taste the difference. They feel the difference. They tell their friends.
We’re not just selling meat. We’re building a community that values integrity, stewardship, and the radical idea that knowing your farmer still matters.
