We were lucky to catch up with Tre Ryan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tre, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think deep down inside I’ve always known I wanted to be an entertainer. But being where I was from, that really wasn’t a realistic goal. Painesville, Ohio is a far cry from Tinsel Town. I always knew I was an extrovert, was never shy, and could work a room. I’ve always been very comfortable around people. Because of all these things, I knew there was more for me outside of my small town.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tre Ryan, and I’m from a town outside of Cleveland called Painesville, Ohio. I think my humble beginnings makes me a very grounded and well rounded actor. Producers and directors tend to appreciate my very “real” style of acting. They know exactly what they’re getting from me.
I am a Navy veteran, and I graduated boot camp #1 out of 1,200 recruits. I believe my time in the military gave me the professionalism, and precision that has carried over into the entertainment industry. I always say that I will not be out worked. I am relentless in my pursuit in the industry. I have seen so much, and been through so many things in my life, that I’m never shaken. Additionally, I have the mentality that if I woke up this morning, then it’s a good day. I don’t sweat the small stuff, and I don’t have bad moods. Of course I am human, lol, so I do get upset…but I don’t hold on to things. I’m a true optimist. The deck was stacked against me a long time ago, so I’m very proud of where I am.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What’s most rewarding being an entertainer is very complex. Film and TV really hits at the emotions. It can make you happy, sad, scared…it can educate you. Being part of stoking all of these emotions and making someone’s life just a little better…taking their mind off of whatever they may be going through, is an amazing feeling.
I/we are also making art for generations of our families to see. The art we make will no doubt out live us. My kids, my grandkids, great grandkids, etc, will all be able to see what Tre Ryan did during his time on this Earth. And that, as well, is an amazing thing. If you’re in this industry for the money, you most likely won’t be successful.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Most actors will undoubtedly get more “no’s” than “yes” through their journey. You HAVE to be resilient as an actor, or it will absolutely break you. If you get 100 auditions, you’re blessed to be booked by 1 of them. Personally, I love that grind. Putting it all on the line and not knowing what’s going to happen, gives me a rush! But the second you hold on to someone turning you down, it will 100% affect your next project. Stay positive, keep grinding and being persistent, and it’ll all work out!
