We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tre McCluskey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tre , thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?

Threads By Tre started off as a hobby! I have always enjoyed wearing suits and mixing and matching fabrics and patterns. My cousin reached out to me to assist her husband with styling for their family Christmas photoshoot. He is not a man accustomed to wearing suits, so there was a period of getting him comfortable with wearing form fitting clothes; after much discussion and debate we were to able to style him in a 3 piece suit with all the accessories. He admitted he had never felt better. His wife, my cousin encouraged me to start a business personal styling and a few months later, Threads By Tre was born!

Tre , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

As a designer, many clients come to me looking for unique suits for special events. There is an experience and process of creating a custom suit or tuxedo. The looks created by myself and my clients can not be duplicated. All of our looks are 1 of 1.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Building Threads By Tre social media audience has been a story of consistency and engagement. We have designed and styled a lot of celebrities and that helps to expand your reach, but the true work is creating quality content that clients can see if themselves. Always remain relatable and respond to clients in the comment section.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

The most effective strategy for growing our clientele is client referrals; because we are in the wedding or prom industry, people don’t require these services often. It is very important to make a lasting impression that clients share your information with their family and friends. Also, clients will remember when their next special event comes around!
