We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Travon Merritt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Travon below.
Travon, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
There’s multiple projects I have done throughout the years that have been meaningful to me but there is two of mine that stick out the most to me. First is the “Cereal Frenzy” concept photoshoot I did a while back. The idea of the photoshoot came to me months before it was executed, I figured cereal was a major part of my childhood growing up as well as other people. For that reason, I knew the shoot would resonate well with a lot of other people just as much as it would for me. I felt that the vision for the shoot represented my style of work perfectly as it gave off the energy of fun, youth, and passion all in one set of photos. The second most meaningful project is my bank heist themed concept shoot called, ‘Robbin Season.’ I came about this idea when I was in a creative drought, I realized while brainstorming I just had to simplify the way I was thinking. I took inspiration from the things I was doing around the time and found myself inspired by the game GTA V and used the game as the building blocks for the idea. What made these two projects even more meaningful is the fact that I had some of my closest friends help me bring my vision to life, it added so much more meaning and energy to the final results that it will always be held in high regards for me.

Travon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Throughout my adolescent years I was always dabbling in different forms of creation through the use of my phone. Experimenting in my early years lead to me being able to learn the core fundamentals essential to photography/videography. I used to use my phone to make videos, edit photos, and even learn a little graphic design. Since 2019, I picked up my first camera and found myself shooting almost everyday and consistently experimenting new looks/styles of editing which lead to me creating my own style of work. I would describe my unique style as surrealism meets cartoons. This unique style I have lead to me being a conceptual, editorial, commercial photographer and music video director because of how much I’m able to use my signature style to make outstanding results for my clientele.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission driving my creative journey is being able to help the people around me and reach levels where I leave an impact on the world and future generations. I know when I get to the point where I can put people around me in good positions and leave a positive impact on their life, I know I’m doing things right. At the end of it all, I want the work I do in this lifetime to go global and live beyond my years on this planet. Creating things that people can resonate with now and in the future.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The story is of one that’s still unfolding, but I can say I got to the point I’m at by being true to myself and being persistent on creating what I truly want to create. There’s many other things that go into creating a social media audience such as having consistency on the amount you post for growth, showing love to others, and keeping your overall social media presence clean and strictly geared on creating or whatever your brands focus is.
