Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Travis Richardson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Travis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
It’s hard putting your work out there for others to be critical of. I originally just took pictures just for my own enjoyment and maybe to share amongst friends and family, and with many of them telling me to share them or even make my hobby a job. It seems like a small thing but for something you find your peace in to become something you share with the public any criticism can feel extremely personal, however every bit of admiration feels just as lovely. Although since the pandemic started I’ve taken a step away from shooting (semi)professionally the risk i took to share not only my work, but special moments with people from all over paid off.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My grandma always took pictures at family events, didn’t matter if you were ready or not she had her camera constantly firing. My dad took after her and was a photographer as well. Growing up I always enjoyed cameras and took pictures on everything from old polaroids, disposable cameras, to early handheld digital cameras and DSLRs. In high school I got my dad’s old Canon rebel and was doing sports photography with my father for my sister’s volleyball team and other high school events. Then in college my first Christmas as a “real adult” my grandmother gave me her Canon rebel t4i and from there I took to taking pictures of my friends and nature around me at every opportunity. Then I started doing small events and graduations as I developed my own skills and comfort behind the camera. Nowadays I treat my photography more as a opportunity to share the world as I see it through my lens and capture special moments for myself and those around me and I’m extremely grateful for everyone who I have worked with
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Everyone I have worked with before I food on social media and keep in touch with. Even if they no longer need my services I have always believed in keeping a good rapport with people.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Richard is a very close friend of mine who I met in college. We had mutual friends and began to hang out and party together, he’s an artist and is currently working in fashion as well. One day we decided to showcase some clothing he was working on and from there we began working on displaying his art and my photography in unique ways. We work on many projects together but soon we’re doing a project in Spain that I’m looking forward to
