We were lucky to catch up with Travis Macklem recently and have shared our conversation below.
Travis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
The first and arguably most important step in the process is to get yourself right. You’ll never be successful or useful to yourself or anyone else if you can’t get yourself under control.
Learn to dress well, speak well, and control your looks. Watch videos, listen to podcasts, read blogs, anything that can help you be the best version of yourself.
Once you get that figured out, I’d suggest making connections. Go to events, look your absolute best, make yourself known. Creating bonds will pay divedens in the long run.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well I am a Scottish Lord, a budding influencer who wants to inspire the masses to become the best possible version of themselves. I am a brand ambassador for companies such as USANA, and KRUSSADERS Fitness. Both companies work to improve the mind, body, and spirit.
I’m most proud of the fact that even with a small audience I have had the ability to inspire people to become better and not give up when these times have taken a toll on them.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson I’ve had to unlearn in my life is simply you cannot rely on others if you first can’t rely on yourself.
In the past I’ve looked to others for confidence and reassurance when I should have been looking within. Now there are some people who will bring out the best in you and try to help you reach your potential, however there are just as many out there looking to take advantage of you and use the fact that you are finding yourself to their advantage. The key is learning the difference and that is the hardest lesson of all.
The main thing is letting go of the fact that you need to lean on people to be better. You should absolutely build relationships that help you grow, and allow others to grow, but be wary of those who just want to use you without helping you in return. Life is about give and take, you must be willing to give the same amount of energy as you receive.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
My most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur is simply self adulation. You may fail at a business 100 times over but at the the end of the day, you need to be proud of what you have accomplished. There are people in this world that unfortunately will never move beyond that job they hate, or taking a risk that could lead to their dream lives, and I applaud anyone who has the fortitude to do so. I have failed far more times than I have succeeded in life, but being able to get up and dust yourself off is the greatest reward tou can ever get. I’ve struggled mentally and physically, given up more times than I can count, but it’s the times when I push through that I am most proud, those moments when I get to the “next level of Travis” that all the pain and stress is worth it. It’s not about becoming rich and famous, it’s about those small improvements each and every day that make it all worth while.
