We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Travis LeRoy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Travis below.
Travis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was 13 years old. I went to see Motley Crue on one of their first tours. I managed to get to the front row. It was so cool (and loud)! Looking back, that concert made a big impression on me. It was the beginning of me wanting to pursue a career in music.
Travis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started in the music industry at a fairly young age. When I was 15, I auditioned for a band called Salem Spade. They were an established band with excellent musicians. They hired me. I learned a lot about what it was like to be in a band, and they really challenged me to push my limits as a bassist.
Fast forward to today. I am the bassist and vocalist for That Eighties Band. It is an 80’s tribute band I founded several years ago. We are based in Denver, CO. We perform up to 100 shows per year for clients all over the United States. I am grateful that we get to play so many great shows for so many people. I am also thankful that I get to work with the talented musicians in the band.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the people I meet along the way. Some have become lifelong friends. I met my wife through music as well. We have worked with several famous musicians, athletes, and actors. That’s pretty cool. I would have never met most of these people if it were not for music.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am driven to constantly improve. After every concert, or every video we make, I think about ways to make it better the next time. I believe it is important to push yourself and not settle for the status quo. At the same time, I think it is important to appreciate the journey.
