Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Travis Hopkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Travis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
A radio program that I host called “This Side Of Country” began collaborating with some local artists, and a local promoter in the spring of 2021. Together we created a live music event that showcases original music from area musicians plus an all star jam. The first event that we did we also included a fundraising opportunity to help benefit a non-profit organization that supports local children battling a medical condition. In addition they grant miracle moments to these amazing kids to provide comfort and hope. From that event this again led to teaming up with local artists around the holiday season. We would hop a bus and travel around the community to spread joy through Christmas caroling to even more kids through this same organization. Both the event and the caroling have become an annual thing that we’ve being doing now for the past 3 years.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’’m very blessed, I truly get to do what I love and help give back at the same time. My mornings consist of hosting a radio program that focuses on playing music from local and independent artists. The show also supports our community through radio segments that spotlight local small businesses and non-profit organizations. We talk to the people that make up our wonderful community and share their stories. When I’m not hosting a radio show and emceeing events, I’m also very blessed to be the outreach coordinator for a local non-profit organization called Fix It Forward Ministry. We help those in need by providing reliable transportation through free vehicle donations and free vehicle repairs. To date we’ve helped provide 480 vehicle donations, and over 1000 repairs.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I have a two part answer as I have a two part career. In radio what’s most rewarding for me is seeing the excitement and emotion that the artists feel hearing their music receive radio airplay. It’s the joy that I see our guests have sharing their story in a radio interview. The second part of this, through Fix It Forward Ministry we as an organization enjoy coordinating fun events that not only celebrates our community and thanks them for their support. The events also provide us the opportunity to create fun ways to fundraise and gain volunteer interest.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that helps drive my particular creative journey is simple, it’s to grow our platforms to reach more people, to raise more awareness, to help more of those in need.
