We were lucky to catch up with Travis Grace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Travis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
The biggest lesson learned on a previous job was my military career. I think above all it taught me to grind from sun up to sun down, not expecting help or handouts from anything. With that approach and mentality i learn to depend on me and trust the process. I literally became the team.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew in a musical family so i was around music my whole life. Once i became interested in recording in my home town no one wanted to help me, so i learned the tricks of the trade and thru trial and error i built my first studio with my bare hands to record myself. Shortly after i joined the military and thru my travels i began to meet people who i would stay link to after i would exit the military. Needless to say the rest is history. To this day i have charted Billboard four times and iTunes 6 times. I have collaborated with Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian, Carl McIntosh of Loose Ends, K Solo of the Hit Squad, Solomon Childs of Wu Tang Clan, Stone Paxton of Prodigee Records. And many more.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson i have learned in the music is being authentic. The sound that I have generated thus far has set me and my career apart from what you hear in this era.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I am fortunate to have several business partners over several business endeavors that im currently apart of. I am the sole owner of Tribe Life Studios but the clothing brand and music is inspired by the Tribe Life Assassin’s, me along with Roniel Harris, Jaquesha Webb, Scott Frazier are the members of this Billboard Charting quad. Im also one half of the Billboard Charting duo the Neighborhood Watch Worldwide, a Hip Hop Group and global social brand. myself along with Jamil Chambers. Im also co owner G.J.E Media Group, a television channel thats set to launch on New Years Day along with myself and my business partners Jonathan Johnson, LaPortia Ermilus, and Rodney Grace.
