We recently connected with Travis Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Travis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our main mission at San Diego Beach Fire’s is to provide an unforgettable experience to San Diego locals and tourists alike. Additionally, our mission is not just limited to providing our service but our mission is to maintain the environment and beauty of San Diego Beaches while showing our clients that the beach is not just a place to enjoy during hot summer days.
By providing the proper equipment and communicating local laws to our clients, we are educating all beach goers that book with us. And by providing our service we share an beach fireside memory that so many people would not have the chance to experience without us. We have heard countless times from families the best part of their San Diego vacation was not Seaworld, a Padres game, or the Zoo, but their time spent around a traditional San Diego beach fire.

Travis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my business in June of 2020 when so many people were looking for things to do outdoors when socializing. We now have provided over 1,200 beach fires ranging from two-person beach fires to larger family reunions. The atmosphere of a beach fire can be anything you want and I think that is the beauty of it, we have seen couples just trying to enjoy a sunset together to larger groups celebrating the night before a wedding to several clients that have reached out to us because they want to hold a celebration of life for a loved one.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We built our social media presence nearly all organically, running extremely low-cost ads on instagram and facebook (<$25 month, 6 months out of the year).
We don’t have an overall enourmous social media following, about 6,500 followers across all platforms, but our following is loyal! The San Diego city council proposed changes to bonfire laws in December of 2022. We announced the changes to our followers and encouraged them to submit public comments and we were absolutely blown away by the response. Not only were we blown away but one city employee reached out to let me know that during their time with the city, they have never seen so many public comments. In fact, we more than doubled the amount of public comments for what would be considered a “hot topic” item up for vote.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In relation to the issue above, we had to go through multiple changes to the laws in San Diego. This required us to fully convert from wood fueled fires to propane fueled fires. We were concerned about being able to provide an authentic and unique experience with propane fueled fire pits but we made several changes to keep the experience as traditional as possible.
