We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trap DeVille a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Trap, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have known I would become a professional artist since I was a child but bringing that into fruition has been a long and treacherous journey. No part of the process was easy but the work was always evident if that makes sense, like I’ve been able to figure out the steps I needed to take however difficult it was I always found myself back in the flow state proving I was on the right track.
There’s so many obstacles to avoid while building a career in music from the finances it often takes to produce a high level quality of work to avoiding toxic relationships, haters and negativity.
For me everything is a mind set meaning as long as I know I am on the right path it makes it solidified.
Being an artist is fun however getting recognition for your craft and making money with it is anything but easy.
Theres always people who want to exploit you, take advantage and use you for your gifts thats why its so important to trust your gut and let people show you who they are.
There’s no magic bullet it all takes fierce determination, faith and a knowing in your heart and soul that you are doing the right thing.
I wrote songs and produced music for 20 years before I got the break that took my career to a professional level but now I make my living off of who I am and who I am meant to be and people hire me for bringing a kind of value they can’t get anywhere else.

Trap, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up around music and I became a songwriter by the time I was seven. It was something that always came very naturally to me writing lyrics and coming up with melodies. As a teenager I grew up playing in punk bands traveling all over the country even singing on the street corner as a kid. Once I eventually started touring professionally and writing for some other main stream artists it gave me the confidence & credentials to go off on my own and build a career for myself.
I learned early on to take risks and go for my dreams if I believed in them.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I saw Nft’s as an opportunity to do some thing that had never been done before. When Nft’s started becoming main stream I had just finished producing a short film and I decided to create the worlds first short film for sale as Nft clips. The Nft space is fascinating to me because people still have a general consensus that it’s skinny or they don’t understand the value in it but really they just don’t realize how fast we are blasting forward into the meta-verse and soon Nft‘s will be as common as MP3s.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Throughout my life every step of the way has built more and more resilience my skin has had to get thicker and thicker and I’ve had to take accountability for everything I’ve ever been through and own every decision that I’ve made to get me where I am today good or bad. I have a real hard luck tail I was on the streets as a kid I was on my own from the age of 13 onward and I definitely face some real nightmare scenarios at one time in my life but I’m proud to say that I overcame the street life poverty addiction and negativity. Now it’s my goal to simply bring light into peoples lives 10 spire those I come in contact with and to be the living embodiment of proof that you can make your dreams come true if you believe in yourself. I have a lot of stories from my time as a gypsy transient but I like to focus on the positivity and the fact that I made it out of that life.
