We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tranean Lytello a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tranean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I think this was the easiest thing to come up with when starting my business. I’m a Scorpio, and the Scorpio creative side is where I pulled this name from.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I think my legacy started when I was a little kid. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for food. In fact, when I was younger like around 4 or 5, my nickname was Mikey. I’m telling my age with this story, but years ago, there was a Life cereal commercial and in that commercial one of the lines, was “Give it to Mikey, he eats everything!” As I got older, my love for food just increased and one day the thought came, why not take my love for food and candles and focus that into making people smile, one candle wick at a time! I love being a kinetic learner right now. Being able to look at things and learn by doing them allows me to look at a dessert on a menu or an actual food item and turn that into a candle or a wax melt. I love being able to do that, well, at least come close to it with my own spin on it.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I credit creating my business for saving my life. For years I’ve struggled with the ugly side of depression, trying medication after medication, idea after idea. It didn’t occur to me that maybe the reason I struggled so much was because I didn’t have an outlet. Being an empath, I am entrusted with not only my feelings and emotions, but also the feelings and emotions of those that I am around (even if we arent’ close). Before I started my business, I just held on to those emotions. Once I started making candles for other people, I was able to channel those emotions and feelings into a project that I could in turn, make someone else’s day better.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
At this point, word of mouth has been the best sourcing of new clients. I’m still really new in this industry as I have only been in this for about a year. I’m still trying to get the social media aspect of it down and I think that just boils down to time. I have an amazing group of clients that never fail to share post or their own candles they have gotten.
