We were lucky to catch up with TRAMAYNE AGENT recently and have shared our conversation below.
TRAMAYNE, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
After contributing 11 years to corporate America, I finally accepted my artistry as more than just a gift. As more opportunities fell into place, it was apparent that the pursuit of becoming a full-time makeup artist is in that current moment. On May 30, 2019, I stepped out on faith separated from the best telecommunications company (AT&T) to do just that. A week later, I was blessed to be hired by one of the top makeup brands in the industry, Morphe Brushes and gained so much knowledge in 6months of physically working there prior to the pandemic! In late 2020 I decided to depart from the company & fulfill my mission as a full time professional makeup artist & here I am 3 years later. My business is still thriving and I am so honored work with the best sought after beauty professionals & clients in the industry. Never gave up on your dream! The best is yet to come.
TRAMAYNE, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a child, I always had a great love for art & beauty. I would always spend countless hours in my room creating & stenciling colorful cartoon characters and word banners. I come from three generations of hairstylist & barbers, so you can say the love of the beauty industry is deeply rooted in my blood. I would consistently watch the everyday housewife, sit in my grandmother’s chair and by the end of their hair appointment, that woman was transformed into a stunning glamour girl. I knew I wanted to be a part of the industry but didn’t know in what area I wanted to contribute, being that I didn’t have the patience for hair. In my teenage years, I constantly played around in makeup products with my best friends and even made up all of their faces for prom. So, you can say my love for makeup continued to grow into my adulthood. In 2009, after practicing for an entire year, I decided to pursue a career in makeup artistry. Over the years, I gained a loving following, worked fashion & trade shows, attained awesome collaborations with talented makeup artist in the DFW area, & posted my work consistently on social media. I’m my experience my approach to makeup application, is to help my clients feel effortlessly beautiful when they leave my chair! The makeup should always be an enhancement not a mask! I think that is what sets me apart in my field! I don’t follow what’s trending. I invest & depend on what works, especially when it comes to the products I implement into my kit! I like to say my kit consists of OG featuring Indie Brands! MAC, Nars, Too Faced, Inglot, Graftobian, Danessa Myricks, Fenty Beauty, Juvia’s Place, Morphe Etc. Feeling confident in the products used on my clients continues to give them beautiful long-wearing results, that keep them returning to my chair! Also this keeps me from purchasing product that do not serve the best needs of my clients! The goal is to invest, accommodate, execute, & profit! I pride myself in having longevity(12 years) in this industry and grateful that despite of social media presents, it’s amazing to know that true & passionate artistry representation is still valued! I would never promote products I have never used on my self & don’t believe in. Most of all I want my potential clients & followers to know, that as an influencer, my intention is to introduce them to amazing affordable/luxury products, & the best tips tricks that will help them achieve beautiful & satisfy results.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve learned one universal rule from my clients: women want to look fresh, flawless, confident and beautiful. In this career, your first impression could be your last impression. I’ve learned that every makeup application is specifically tailored to that person’s personality, image, skin type, and style. I had the unlearn that every application is created equal and is not one size fits all. Social media can be intimidating, especially when Instagram makeup trends are considered! However, my advice to any upcoming artist is to step into the power of you! You are unlike anyone else, that is why your clients gravitate & ultimately book you. Wear your passion & confidence for your craft proudly! Remember you are only in competition with youreslf! You are the professional & providing exceptional customer service means everything. Your chair is an intimate interaction with your clients. For some, that’s is their only time to have peace of mind and if you can create a pleasurably comfortable & relaxing setting, your clients will return the favor!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The road to making a full-time career in makeup artistry was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be. As an artist, I felt the need to accommodate every potential client that wanted to book with me. Due to the demands of my corporate job, I would find myself turning down the job or handing the job off to another qualified artist. It became very frustrating to ask my loyal clients to consider me for future events. However, I felt it was my duty to assist them with finding the best available artist possible. During this time of 2012-2015 I felt extremely suffocated and confined to a corporate career path, I had no desire growth, but was grateful for the communications & customer service experience. It was a depressive never-ending cycle. I had a consciousness lack, no passion, & no drive,! I felt powerless & completely unaware of the gifts God had given me. I completely felt unworthy of ever doing what I love. I realized my discontent was my own! I had to look at life from a different perspective! With the prayer & support of family & friends, I transformed and transcended the obstacles, no matter what they looked like. I had to remember that I am walking billboard for my brand. No one will believe in my artistry if I don’t. Early 2021 I invested in the High Paying Bridal Client Academy with the guidance of my Business Mentor Ling Aragaran. Ling & her team of talented Coaches provided me with the tools needed to rebrand, market & niche down my business! Utilizing the knowledge learned in the programs was the catalyst to push my business in the desired direction. It was the best decision I ever made. I took my power back wholeheartedly. I was fully supported in area of my business that needed attention! It’s 2022 and I’m now in my desired career path, willing to learn, grow, & serve. I am completely devoted to the true representation of my brand Traye De’Vawn Glam & prepared to go wherever God takes us! I have a feeling my ordered steps are about to come fully circle
