We were lucky to catch up with Tracy Memoli recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tracy , appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was working as a publicist in the corporate PR world and left my job to pursue my passion in the food and beverage industry. I always loved frozen cocktails, but they were always filled with a lot of sugar and bad ingredients. I was shocked that a healthier option didn’t exist, and I wanted to change that. Together, with my life-long love for ice pops, I set out to create gourmet, low alcohol-infused ice pops without any added sugars, syrups or dyes. When I started the business in 2017, FrutaPOP created an entirely new product category in the food and beverage industry by offering consumers gourmet, alcohol-infused ice pops, under 5% ABV (alcohol by volume). Today, I work with some of the world’s largest brands, hotels, restaurants and top chefs to create specialty alcohol-infused ice pop flavors.
Tracy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
FrutaPOP, the makers of the world’s finest gourmet, alcohol-infused ice pop is reinventing the ice pop, a product that hasn’t seen an innovation in the last 70 years. FrutaPOP is the first of its kind to contain natural ingredients without any added sugars, syrups or dyes. FrutaPOP offers seasonal flavors including Sparkling Mango Mimosa, Watermelon Margarita, Pina Colada, Guava Cosmo, Lemon Rosé and Ginger Lime Mule POPs. FrutaPOP is constantly innovating and creating new flavors and products. FrutaPOP also offers non-alcoholic mocktail ice pops and just launched Negative Ice, the world’s first prebiotic ice pop.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, it’s staying true to my core values as a person and as a company. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to me and my company: how well are we meeting the needs of our customers and providing excellent customer service. For us, providing superb customer service is one of the most important things next to providing a great tasting product using the best ingredients. Trust and clear communication are key factors in the success of a business and can lead to increased loyalty, better reputation, and greater opportunities for growth. Some of our best customers come from other loyal customers that have a great experience with us and love our product.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
My all-time favorite book is Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. Her book completely changed the way I think about creativity and the entire creative process. In the book, she discusses attitudes, approaches and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives. The way she describes an idea is as a “disembodied, energetic life-form. They are separate from us but interact with us. The only way an idea can be made manifest in our world is through collaboration with a human partner.” I think about this almost every single day or whenever I have a new idea. A new idea is this energy, a lifeform in the universe and sometimes you listen to it and other times it may pass you by.
