Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tracy Dawson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tracy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Please tell us about starting your own firm and if you’d do anything different knowing what you know now.
I will never forget the day I decided to take matters and my life into my own hands. November 2017 was the month my dream and reality all hit within the same month. I had come across a gentleman named Kin, or Jason as I call him. It was a community event in Dallas, and I volunteered to help a friend of mine sell his hats for a clothing brand he had just started. While waiting for the first prospective customer, I struck up a conversation with Kin, a tribal lawyer here in the DFW, and the rest was history. He helped me get my business started and off the ground the right way, which many people don’t get the opportunity to do. With the information he shared, I took it upon myself to create my agency name, gather some money from my job, and make the call that changed everything. I must admit, there were a few challenges I faced, such as not knowing how to open a business bank account, how to file for an LLC, where to get the paperwork to open a business account, and not having the right documents. The process was challenging, as anything unfamiliar is, but it was worth it. I’d tell anyone wanting or looking to start or build a business to have a plan, talk with the right people to make things easier, and not worry about being perfect. It’s about progress over perfection, so don’t beat yourself up for the things you are learning and adapting to.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As an entrepreneur with a big heart, I have learned many things over the years. In 2016, I took on the role of business manager for an elite businessman and spent five years learning about business and about myself. One of the most important things I learned was the importance of trust. I used to believe that everyone in the business world was as good as me, but I soon discovered that this was not the case. I urge everyone to take the time to understand themselves so that they can choose wisely when it comes to who and what they invest their time and energy into. This helped me avoid bad business experiences and saved me a lot of money. So, remember: a good person can be ruined by the many who are not. As a seasoned digital marketing professional, I specialize in developing tailored strategies to help businesses like yours reach their target audience, increase brand visibility, and drive meaningful engagement. The most important part of the whole entrepreneur journey is to know yourself trust yourself don’t doubt yourself doubt kills dreams and ambition.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Some key things that I have always considered when building a reputable brand and reputation in my market are that I have always been consistent. That’s the big word: Consistency! It has literally been one of the main factors that helped me grow and establish relationships in high-value circles. I understood my mission and became obsessed with the journey of fulfilling my purpose. Another important aspect is leverage and relationships; I’ve become very useful to the people around me and have built the right trust in order to gain the leverage I need.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There are so many lessons we have to learn in the journey of being an entrepreneur. But one I can say I had to unlearn using business income for personal uses. This was something I felt was ok due to thinking hey I put in the work so why can’t I spend on what I need at the moment. Having the right financial guidance will make or break how you build and scale your business. I realized after I had spent and made over 100k in my career I had nothing to account for no way to track it or no assets purchased with nay of the profits and that killed my business for a few reasons no marketing expenses no extra cash for necessities in day-to-day operations. Once I understood how to develop the right systems and hire the right people I was able to overcome the instability of money management.
