We recently connected with Tracy Campbell and have shared our conversation below.
Tracy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
There have been a few meaningful projects I’ve had the honor of being apart of and I would say the last couple of projects have been wildly meaningful in this season of my life. I wrapped up two films back in March: a short film entitled ‘Luther’ and a feature film entitled ‘Now I See’ both polar opposite projects and characters. ‘Luther’ is based off a true story of a man incarcerated for armed robbery and Jesus finding him in prison, restoring his life spiritually and leading him to start a ministry within his prison. To this day he’s seen hundreds of inmates saved. ‘Luther’ will be debuting on Pure Flix September 1st and is in talks to be turned into a feature film with a theatrical release. ‘Now I See’ is about a young blind woman whose daughter is abducted and who sets out on her own journey to find her with the help of her boyfriend (my character) when the investigation suddenly turns on him. That film will hit theaters and streaming services sometime in 2023.
Being a lover of Jesus, ‘Luther’ holds such a meaningful place in my heart because it’s a raw telling of redemption and restoration and the reality that no one is too far from the love of God to be transformed. It’s really a story about every believer to some extent or degree.
‘Now I See’ is such a wonderful story about the lengths a mother will go to save her daughter. Even being presented with her own physical limitations, she shows that love surpasses any impossibility. And for me within the context of all the relationships I’ve been so blessed to have, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for the people I love.
Tracy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ah yes, sharing the tea about my life haha! I was born in Kennesaw GA and raised in Fayetteville GA! I got my start in acting at around the age of 8-9 years old, my parents put me in acting classes, soon after I was represented by an agency and I was booking work here and there commercially, I was also heavily involved in theater. I took a long break from acting heading into middle school and didn’t get back into acting professionally until my 2nd year of bible college. I booked my first “big job” if you will as a guest star on the hit Tyler Perry television series ‘Meet The Browns’ and soon after more work began to follow with guest starring roles and recurring roles on other television shows one being the other Tyler Perry television series ‘House of Payne’. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster of a profession however it’s one that I deeply love and sense God has called me too and when you know God has called you to it, He’ll bring you into everything He has for you by faith when you’re ready and willing to receive it. Delay isn’t denial, its destiny right on time! I’m grateful, honored and proud of every project I’ve been a part of and I’m excited for all the upcoming projects that I was blessed to be involved with that will be releasing soon.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’ll kill two birds with one stone here! Within the past four to five years I’ve been writing more content with my writing partner, television shows and films. We’ve also been fortunate enough to pitch our projects to high caliber producers, show runners, and studio executives. It’s definitely been a different yet rewarding journey and I would say the driving force behind writing is also very similar to the driving force/goal behind acting, to tell impactful stories that matter. I desire to act in as well as write stories that will leave audience members better than they started, stories that move and compel the heart to action. Projects that have no particular agenda or narrative, just simple yet profound stories that encourage, inspire, provoke, and motivate.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me personally the most rewarding aspect of being an actor is hearing about the impact the project might have had on someones life. I did a film a few years back that you guys actually interviewed me about called ‘Bricked’, and I’ll never forget reading and hearing about the impact it had on so many lives because of that particular story and the way it was told. I know some actors would say seeing the final cut is the most rewarding and to some degree I definitely believe that especially if you’ve worked so hard on a project however knowing that a project had such a wonderful impact on a life to me far outweighs how the final cut looks.
