Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tracy Beauchamp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tracy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The best thing I’ve done is shown my customers that I’m human first! I know as business owners we have to pay the bills but I try to show my customers that it’s not all about the money! I give them flexible payment options just in case things come up out of their control and with me being a single mother I can relate to some of their hardships! Kindness goes a long way and people will remember that!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tracy Beauchamp, Owner of Blessed Hands Floral Design. I’m 42 years old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I graduated from Mckinley High School and went on to receive my Bachelor’s Degree from Southern University A&M College in December of 2002. I have an 11 yr old daughter Zyien who is my everything and the reason I give 1000% everyday! I’m a retired Special Education Teacher and while I was recovering from spinal surgery at the beginning of Covid I saw people putting up these signs in yards and I thought to myself “I can do that”. So I did my research and slowly started to buy my inventory. I’ll never forget I bout two Happy Birthday sets red and black and alternated them so it would ever look the same each time I used them. I ran a $75 dollar sale to get my foot in the door and build up my clientele. Once I had a few clients I was able to eventually buy more inventory and and service more clients! As a professional yard carder I work full time doing what I love which is making memories for families!what I’m most proud of is that my daughter gets to see her mother making a difference in the world! What differentiates me from other companies is that I put humanity first before the money! Not everyone can afford our prices but that doesn’t mean they’re not worthy of being celebrated! I’ve built so many relationships where my clients turn into family and they keep coming back or refer me to their family and friends! I’m a household name and I would have never in a million years imagined this would be my life right now! My signs tell a story and I put my all into each one no matter how big or small! My clients will tell you I’m very professional, efficient and will definitely give you more than you expected!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Marketing is sometimes hard but you have to put yourself out there so you can grow! I’ve been blessed to have my clients give me raving reviews on The Nextdoor App! This app generates from different neighborhoods and you’ll be seen by thousands of people who may indeed be looking for the service you provide. Once they see the reviews made by others and then more reviews are added from more people that you have serviced it helps your brand grow even more because it’s someone else who have actually used your services and not you just trying to sell yourself! This has been my save in grace and I truly thank God for my customers!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I was a Special Education Teacher for 9 years! I was injured and had 2 spinal surgeries which lead me to not being able to teach again. One reason I have PTSD when it comes to walking into a classroom because all I can see is my attack over and over again. But God knew he had a plan for me all along and it was in his timing not mine! He knew Covid was coming and I would need to be home with my daughter to keep her safe and I also had the knowledge to help her in her academics while being home! So my yard carding went from a side hustle to part time and now I’m a FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL YARD CARDER! Trust in his word and be ready for the path he has see forth for you!
