Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tracey Totten. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tracey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The inspiration for Sassaries struck during an immersive reading experience with “Girl, Make Your Money Grow” by Gail Perry-Mason and Glinda Bridgforth. The insights gained from the book ignited a passion for financial empowerment and wealth building. Recognizing the transformative potential, I embarked on a two-week journey dedicated to delving into the world of entrepreneurship. Taking a calculated leap, I committed two weeks away from my regular work routine to meticulously research the jewelry business landscape. This dedicated time allowed me to absorb the intricacies of the industry, identify market trends, and explore the potential for a unique contribution.
What excites me most about Sassaries is the fusion of financial wisdom with the elegance of jewelry. My Daughter is the driving force behind my entrepreneurial journey; I strive to build a legacy that makes her proud and inspire her own dreams. Sassaries is more than a brand; it’s a statement, a lifestyle that embodies sophistication and financial acumen. Our moto is Never Trendy Always In Style.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sassaries, as a lifestyle brand, stands out not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its roots in financial empowerment. The careful integration of wealth-building principles into the brand’s essence positions Sassaries as more than just a jewelry line—it’s a lifestyle choice that aligns with the values of savvy, empowered individuals. We curate each item sold. Categories include Eyewear, Jewelry, Apparel and Drinkware. All of our items are fairly priced with great quality.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Family is not your customers. Often times new business owners rely on family and friends to support, shop, and share their business. This is not always the case so please do not depend on them. Family can be great for focus groups, and new product launch test runs. They are not your sole client.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My initial capital was $300. I saved up money from my paycheck every two weeks about $100. When I had the $300 I rushed to purchase items in my cart. I was so eager to get products in. Unfortunately the quality of the first round of jewelry was no good. I had to learn the hard way to go out and seek wholesalers and take time to spend lighter and research more.
