Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tracey Parson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tracey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Honestly, no. I believe that I needed to go through my past experiences as an Entrepreneur in order to be tough enough to make the decision to get into the entertainment business. This business is not for the weak and you have to have business savvy, good intuition, and thick skin. Had I entered or attempted to do what I’m doing now when I was younger, I doubt it would have been as satisfying or successful.
Tracey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My entry into film production and directing started with needing an outlet to share a traumatic experience. I turned to writing and that resulted in releasing two books at the same time. I knew that both stories -one fiction and one nonfiction- could be impactful. Starting the research and conversations on what it would take to turn one of my stories into a screenplay, then into an actual film was overwhelming initially. But, I was motivated and I knew that it was my time to do this.
I’m most proud of just starting this journey. I think everyone has a testimony and mine just happens to include a colorful background and going making the foray from writer to film producer to director all under my entertainment company, TraPar Entertainment.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to leave a positive legacy for my children. To show them that it is never too late to step into your dreams and create your own path to success. This keeps me motivated everyday to keep going.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something that I had to unlearn on my creative journey is that not everything that sounds good is good. Sometimes as a woman and a novice entering the business of entertainment, there will be situations where your knowledge will be tested, as well as, your “grit”. So, I had to learn to listen and read between the lines to filter out the facts from the fluff.
