We recently connected with Tracey Massey and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracey, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The best thing I’ve done to show a customer I appreciate them is sending them a personalized gift with a handwritten note on the anniversary of their loved one’s passing. This slight gesture has been a hit with clients. I’ve gotten reactions such as “thank you for thinking of me” and “this really brightened my day.”
Tracey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tracey Massey. I am a Certified Grief Coach teaching people impacted by tragedy, how to disrupt the cycle of grief and thrive in their new normal. I also host a podcast called The Charging Station. My coach, mentor, and friends persuaded me to enter this industry. I started my business coaching women to achieve goals. After working with a few clients, I noticed a common thread. Many of them were dealing with grief. Because of this, I wanted to make sure that I provided a safe space for them to grieve along with moving forward with their goals. So, I earned my Grief Coaching certification as an additional tool. Once people who know me found out about the Grief Coaching certification, they persuaded me to focus on this area because of the personal experience I’ve had with overcoming grief and my ability to teach others. People started referring clients to me and I haven’t looked back.
I offer 1:1 coaching and will launch my group coaching program in 2023 to serve more people and build a community of support. We also have products launching in 2023 that I am super excited about. My coaching programs teach people how to identify, disrupt, manage grief and be proactive instead of reactive when grief appears.
What sets me apart in this field is that I coach from a holistic model, meaning I coach people where they are and walk alongside them to get them to where they want to be.
I am most proud of the breakthroughs my clients have. To see them realize moving forward with life does not mean they are forgetting about their loved one makes my heart smile. Their growth is a win.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I am an avid reader, so I will try to keep this list short. A few of my favorites are:
“The Power of Focus”
“Atomic Habits”
“The Big Leap”
“Everyday M.A.G.I.C.”
These books give practical/applicable tools that can be used in business and everyday life.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is like a marathon. You have to remember why you are doing what you do and what you want to accomplish by being in this space. Social Media is crowded. Social Media is loud. Social Media can be overwhelming.
My advice would be to show up as your authentic self and do not be afraid to step back if necessary. Don’t be afraid to experiment and pay attention to your analytics. Your audience will show you what kind of content they enjoy seeing from you. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your audience what they would like to see. Polls work wonders! Most importantly, give things time to work. The algorithm changes on a daily basis (at least that’s how if feels), and your audience may not see what you post immediately. If you have an email list, be sure to include your social media accounts in your newsletters. Also, include your social media on your website so visitors can see what you post.
