We were lucky to catch up with Tracey Eman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tracey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It all started out in 1967 when I was was the ripe old age of Seven Years old! I grew up in Queens, New York- Forest Hills. My mom would take my sister and I to dancing classes. From there we also coached in singing lessons and then eventually acting classes. My mom noticed my talent and then brought me to Mahattan where I was signed by my first manager. Her name was Muriel Carl and then Selma Rubin. Popular and sucessfull managers at that time! My first audition was for for a winterstock show called Show Boat. I auditioned for the role of Kim and I remember when I had my callback. I had a scene with the lead actor- Earl Carlson who played the character of my father. He started to sing to me and I remember at seven years old I started to cry (I was not planning on that) and I booked my first job. From there I went on to do many other shows including several different companies of Gypsy playing the role of Baby June and also several different productions of the Sound of Music.. My sister also booked the role of Louisa and I booked the role of Marta, It starred Barabara Eden who was an absolute doll and that was one of the best summers of my life!I went on to do many commercials.I also did a production of Fiddler on the Roof staring Paul Lipson at the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey. I did a Broadway show called Ari( Musical version of the Exodus). One of the stars of the show was David Cryer. He was the father of Jon Cryer-Two and a Half Men-yes that Jon Cryer! A few years later I did aTV Series called Infinity Factory. It was on PBS and at the time it was intoducing the Metric System . It was very similiar to a show called Electric Company which also consisted of some major stars. I was definitely a child actress and I can go on and on with but this will turn into a book….lol. I fell out of that part of being the biz in my early twenties and went on to create an entertainment company which supplied entertainment for corporate and private parties. I moved to Florida in 1999 and fell right back into the thing I love most and that is Acting and Entertaining. I love to tell stories and live vicariously through all of the characters that I play! When I started getting back into this biz , I took headshots and started out with one agent and that has turned into 20 different agents! Now there is the internet. I have done numerous infomercials. I also have done many films which some of them are on Amazon-Painkiller,Tiny Dancers. Several movies that went through film feastivals and won many awards including Blanc Canvas and Amends of the father. I also did a film called Julies Secret. I play the role of Linda – a very funny and drunk nosey neighbor! I love doing fun roles like that!It should be coming out shortly. I also play the house Karen on a Webseries called SoulSnack. you can see me in about 50 episodes or so, You can find it on Youtube.com/SoulSnackVideos. My name is also attached to all of the episodes that I have done. I just finished doing a Medicare Advantage Plan commercial where I play the judge-(Judge Judy) which is airing all over the United States. Last week I did a Disney commercial but can’t say anything more untill it airs! Each year that I have been back in the business I am getting better and booking more roles!.My goals are to be in a blocbuster film and a regular chacter on a big television show! I am definitely heading in the right direction :)
Tracey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What seperates me from all of the other actors is my laugh.I don’t think there is anyone out there that can say the same! It is a combination of crazy/evil.That is my real laugh! If you watch my SoulSnack episodes you will understand what I am talking about. You can find it on youtube.com/SoulSnackVideos. My name is attached to all of the episodes that I did. I love being a character actress and the crazier the better…..lol! Comedy is definitely my specialty! You can see me on various internet advertisements as well as commercials on TV.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, I find the most rewarding aspects of my career is making people laugh. I wish I had a lot more opportunities to do that. Doing anything that touches people aside from comedy! Just putting people into a very positive place after seeing me perform. Also it allowed me to meet some of the most awesome people-Actors-Directors-Casting Directors as well as Talent Agents.I would also like to mention my freind Richord Forbes. We met in a acting class and we have become life long friends. He also has a similiar back.ground to mine and he is an uber talented actor. I call him my Acting Angel becase he has helped me out in this biz like nobody else has! In return, I have shown him the ropes when he was starting out :) I also wanted to shout out to some of my fabulous Agents-Alison and Marisa and Katelynn at Professionally Pretty, Dona from Famous Faces, Sharon and Chrissy at Martin and Donalds, Susan Applegate from the Applegate agentcy, Robin and Wendy from Creative Management,Glenn from Burton and Robinson,Danielle at The Sportsbook Agentcy, and Tracy from Grey models. All of who have helped me get to this point!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Florida has given me some great opportunities. The only problem with that is I need to be in a bigger market like Atlanta or LA. I grew up in New York, too cold for me :) I have so much drive and I would love to be in a bigger market but I also want to be realistic for making such a big move. I also need more guidance from people that know the markets well. The bigger the market the more competition there is as well to be considered. I have looked in to other larger markets like Tennesee, New Orleans. Alabama but honestly would not know where to start on that mission! I would certainly be open to suggestions.
