Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Toyosi Onabamiro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Toyosi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

My most meaningful project was for a client who wanted a special look for her MBA graduation.. Why it was so meaningful to me because my client hardly wore makeup, and to see the look on her face after our session was priceless. Through working with her, I got to uncover the beauty that had always been there and that’s the beauty of makeup. Make up only enhances what’s already in there.

Toyosi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am Toyosi Onabamiro and I am the creative director behind Mina-Star beauty. A professional makeup service catered to special events, Bridal and professional headshots. Our mantra at Mina-Star is unearthing the beauty that lies beneath. We believe that makeup should enhance ones internal beauty.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

A few years ago, I was struggling personally and professionally after I had my daughter. I began watching YouTube videos. I would watch Tiara Monet and Jackie Ainas videos for hours and started buying and playing with make up. Slowly and surely I began to rediscover my self again. I wasn’t just a mother or wife, I was a beautiful woman. Make up made me rediscover that. And that is the mission that drives MinaStar. Anyone and everyone that steps in my chair gets to rediscover and claim that part of herself, through the power of makeup.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I would say the best source of new client’s is social media and word of mouth. Social media aids in getting your brand out there and showcasing your work. Word of mouth aids in building your brand recognition an professionalism. You can’t get one without the other, in my opinion.
