We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Toshii K. D. Cooper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Toshii K. D. below.
Alright, Toshii K. D. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
One Friday evening about six years ago, I was feeling defeated, wondering if my mobile spa business, Infinite Healing, would ever thrive as it was experiencing a slow period. I wore, and continue to wear, multiple hats and wasn’t confident that my Marketing hat was sufficient. I was scrolling through social media and happened to come across a video of a celebrity couple getting married. I remember thinking to myself of how nice it would be to attract clients of their stature, thinking how that would add flair to my Marketing hat. Fast forward about a month later, I received a call from a woman wanting to book a Couple’s Massage. She had a genuine smile in her voice and was expressing how happy she was to have found my business card. Apparently, she had booked a Couples Massage with us a few years before for her and her fiancé, now husband and she had misplaced my card. She went on to say that we wouldn’t have to drive as far this time to their home because they had moved and lived within the perimeter now. As she spoke, I began to remember the service we provided a few years back, the distance we travelled, and her excitement as she snuck me and the other therapist through a beautiful backyard and patio, and into the room we were providing the massages. It was a surprise. I love being a part of surprises, which happens often with a mobile spa. Well, once I recalled the appointment, I thanked her for thinking of Infinite Healing and giving us a call. I collected her information, coordinated the service with myself and another therapist, and confirmed her appointment. I remember smiling to myself after hanging up the phone. It felt good to know that Infinite Healing had made such an impact on someone where they were happy to find my business card to re-book with us.
Fast-forward to our arrival to the clients’ new home, myself and the wife made our reunited pleasantries as she escorted us to the room we’d be giving the massages in. Okay. So get this. Once she returned with the husband, a light-switch went off in my head. To my surprise, this was the celebrity couple I witnessed getting married on social media about a month prior.
So, anyone that knows me know that I’m all about my work, my life’s path. I usually have my head down with focused attention on my grind. I’m not star struck, in the know, or moved by opulence. Thus, it never occurred to me to look up my clients’ names. The Universe showed me that not only was my Marketing hat sufficient because I had unknowingly attracted the actual couple I had observed getting married, but that our stellar service had them wanting more.
The lesson for me was that it’s good to be focused, but it’s also good to look up sometime, enjoy the present moment, and acknowledge and express gratitude for all of my accomplishments, big and small.
Since that moment, I realized that it doesn’t matter if my Marketing hat is attracting wealthy or blue-collar clientele, that what’s most important is that Infinite Healing helps individuals de-stress their minds and bodies, as well as uplift their spirits. De-stressed individuals make for a better world to live in.
Toshii K. D., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am The Vibrational Midwife. My mission is to INFINITELY thrive on this planet as I continuously enhance to, and maintain, high vibrational frequencies, and teach others how to do the same so that we can, all, INFINITELY thrive.
The Wellness industry has fueled my passions as a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, Developer of The Atoning Chakra Massage, founder of My Sacrednicity, a virtual and in-person Wombmen’s Wellness Retreat, and owner of Infinite Healing – A Holistic Mobile Spa. I’ve been a Massage Therapist for twenty-one plus years; a Reiki practitioner for fifteen plus years, a Reiki Master for eleven plus years, and I developed the modality, Atoning Chakra Massage, which I teach as a Continuing Education course, eight years ago.
After high school, I went to three different colleges and pursued three different majors. Finally, I earned a B.S. degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in Business Management with a minor in Business Administration in 1996. With that, I landed a job with Merrill Lynch in New York, NY. I was pretty proud of myself as I was one of twelve, and the only African American, out of a pool of 800 selected to participate in a Management Training program. During that time, I was, also, very interested in metaphysical concepts and the art of healing by touch and absent healing. But, I didn’t think I’d generate a substantial clientele by telling people that I can heal them by laying my hands on them. Nonetheless, something clicked. And after three years of not being fulfilled within the financial services industry, I quit my job and enrolled in a Massage Therapy Program at the Swedish Institute in New York, NY. I figured I’d build my clientele via massage and then introduce healing by touch and absent healing to interested parties.
Well, it turned out that I absolutely loved the art of massage, human anatomy, and the Eastern modality, Shiatsu, which was part of the program. Immediately after completing the program, in July, 2000, I jumped right into the field of massage. I worked as I contractor at day spas, fitness facilities, yoga studios, and as a mobile therapist. It was a great time in my life. I felt free as my schedule was very flexible, I was making a lot of money, and I felt fulfilled. That all came to a halt after 911 (9/11/2001) because there was a lot of fear in New York – people were losing jobs.
To make ends meet, I decided to apply for substitute teaching. And to my surprise, I was hired on the spot as a full-time Math Teacher due to my extensive background in Math and Science. Yeah, one of those aforementioned degrees I pursued was Math. Nonetheless, I became a full-time middle school Math Teacher from January, 2002 until June 2004. I still provided massages but only on a part-time (and sometime) basis. I had been longing to move back south (I’m from New Orleans) and settled on Atlanta, GA. Thus, I departed New York June, 2004.
Though I love Mathematics and being a teacher, I really missed being a Massage Therapist. Thus, I only pursued Massage work once I arrived in Atlanta. I worked at a day spa, Chair Massage Company, and a mobile spa for about three years before I formed my own mobile spa, Infinite Healing – A Holistic Mobile Spa in the fall of 2007. It was during 2006 that I finally became a Reiki Practitioner and began creating space for individuals to heal through touch and absent healing – energy work. Though I still loved massage and energy work very much, I learned that I needed to exercise my analytical mind, as well. Thus, I went back to Corporate America in 2009 and stayed until the company folded in 2014 (probably five years too long :-)).
By 2013, I had the urge to enter into the teaching profession again. This time, I taught the human anatomy, ethics as it related to Massage Therapy, and various modalities like Swedish, Deep Tissue, Prenatal, Hot Stone, Sports, Reflexology, and Spa Treatments. I have been fortunate to teach entire Massage Therapy programs as well as Massage Continuing Education courses for trade schools located in Georgia and Louisiana.
Infinite Healing Holistic Mobile Spa currently provides mobile massages and spa treatments to individuals, couples and groups in the comfort of their homes, vacation rentals, hotel rooms, offices, classrooms, clubhouses, convention spaces, retreat spaces, etc. We provide all of the equipment, supplies, and products complete with relaxing music to help our clients destress.
In addition to providing phenomenal massage therapy services, organic spa treatments, and stellar customer service, we help to balance the aura via Reiki. Thus, we holistically treat the mind, body, and spirit. Hence, our tagline, ‘Illuminate Your Essence and Nurture Your Soul’.
I am most proud of the awesome, professionally licensed Massage Therapists that are contractors for Infinite Healing. They are, all, reliable, genuinely kind, serious about their craft, and committed to providing client-centered work. When you book an appointment with Infinite Healing Holistic Mobile Spa, you book a peaceful wellness experience wrapped with outstanding customer service.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I feel that providing great customer service is most helpful for succeeding as the owner of a mobile spa. Although this is the digital age where most people are communicating via apps, I pride myself in answering and or returning all calls whether they leave messages or not, as well as schedule calls with individuals who initiate dialogue via my online form. I believe in establishing a rapport with my clients to ensure that they understand that it is our goal to provide client-centered, therapeutic services for their appointment.
In regards to Infinite Healing, I believe that customer service begins on our website where it is explained what we offer, to whom we offer it, and the days and times at which we offer it. It goes on with the first email, phone call, text, direct message, etc. It continues with coordination and confirmation of the appointment/event and is picked up by the Massage Therapist(s) who arrive(s) on time, professionally dressed with a pleasant attitude and equipped to provide the service(s) confirmed. It ends with the final email and receipt, and sometimes with an additional follow up communication, which leads to an opportunity to receive feedback and/or to schedule another appointment.
Our customers know that we value them by the care we provide from start to finish.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Like many businesses, Infinite Healing was negatively impacted by the Covid pandemic. Initially, we could not provide any services because of the nation being shut down. When the country began to open up, I was slow to resume services because I wasn’t sure how to navigate with all of our hands-on services. I knew that there was a demand for Infinite Healing’s services, though not as great as before the pandemic, because I found myself turning down service requests.
Finally, in August of 2020, I established Covid – related waivers, consent forms, and protocols for Infinite Healing’s clients and Massage Therapists to abide by and resumed services. I was excited to get back to business, but ran into a hiccup. When I reached out to my contractors, I’d learned that over fifty-percent of them were not providing massage therapy services any more for various reasons. Though it’s been a long road since August, 2020, I have attracted some awesome new therapists and welcomed back others who have decided to return to the industry. Although some of my corporate clients haven’t returned yet, I am grateful for loyal customers who have been with us for years and all of our new clients and referrals.
I knew that I could not give up on Infinite Healing because our services benefit the human race, overall. We help to enhance calm, peace, relaxation, health, wellness, and more, all of which is needed and appreciated during and after this pandemic.
