We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Toshiea Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Toshiea below.
Toshiea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned by watching others daily, and practicing on myself. Follow more skilled artists, and take classes from skilled makeup artists. Honestly everything is most essential, because there’s so many steps in the process. Being hard on myself, not seeing my talent even though it’s right in my face.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into makeup during the pandemic, i started off just watching people apply their makeup and then later on i began to start practicing on myself. I have something’s up my sleeve for 2024 that i can’t yet mention, but i hope to have support. I’ve been asked to take makeup clients, I’ve been heavily considering it but i need to create a makeup kit which is costly so it may take me a while, and i also would rather have a suite of my own.I would want to give my clients a great experience so that they’re forever returning, and referring others. I’m proud of how far I’ve come with my makeup skills , i would want clients to know i would supply the services i would want to receive.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I posted my makeup looks, videos of my looks, i also went live doing my makeup so that i could bond with my supporters and gain new supporters all while remaining consistent. Find your niche, be consistent with posting content and going live, keep going because someone is always watching whether they’re in the live or watching from the outside. Don’t let the trolls get to you, they’re just trying to get a reaction out of you whether it’s good or bad. Always interact with your supporters, and show that you appreciate them.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Having support from so many people, others from the makeup community, supporters I’ve gained along the way. They show me so much love & support, and the encouragement they give me is unmatched. I’m so appreciative of the relationships I’ve built and still building.
