Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Torshia Brielle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Torshia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Nothing bring me more joy besides my family than being an artist. The one place in the world that I am 100% sure that I belong is on stage. it ironic that this question is being asked because ive had a “regular job” before and it was the most unfulfilling thing I could have done with my life and time. I was good at it but I hated every second of being boxed in. The last time I had the thought of getting a regular job was shortly after my relocation to Atlanta, Ga. I work in film and music at the time I was spending more time in film world and the writer strike hit and work vanished with no timeline of it returning in sight. it was an extremely tough season to weather. I can remember sitting in my bed scrolling and applying for jobs but as God would have it I could never get them I was either overqualified or I had been out of the workforce for too long. and form the most honest space I didnt truly want them. I was ony going to do it because I had bills to pay. I ca remember clear as day looking at a marketing management position seeing the salary and then immediately being sad because I knew my spirit didnt belong there. and the more and more is scrolled therough jobs I literally found myself thinking nope… nope.. no… yeah no. I literally dont desire to do any of these jobs. God there has to be another way. I was born a creative and my gifts have to make room for me. I dont know how. I just know that they do. I literally prayed and asked God to give me another way and I was able to use another lane of creativity my degree in cosmetology to hold me over and get me through the strikes. I had just enough clientele to pull me through. Now, I use the “regular job” scroll day when I forget my why. Its the reminder that there is nothing else in the world that I would rather be doing than being and Artist, Singer, Actress, and a writer.
Torshia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Yes, as a creative there really isnt a time that our minds arent working and being creative. Unless it is in the creative depressive space but even then our minds are working to get out of there. Non creatives at time dont understand us and it can seem that we fly by the seat of our pants. this can be very off putting for people who need more routine things. I have to explain often that the life I chose is a get up and go. I can make plans for next tuesday at 8 pm and get a call on sunday that I need to be in arizona on tuesday at 4 and guess what? Ive gotta go. being a creative at times doesnt always allow for the stability many seek and this can be daunting to explain. To know, love, marry, be friends or build any type of relationship with a creative is to be flexible and to know we always come home but this is what work looks like for us. Also, some non creatives may not see the creatives job as a job because they see the high points you traveling the world in different cities while it can be fun and exciting at the same time its exhausting because what one doesnt see is you getting to a city, checking in to a hotel, going to sound check, getting dressed, doing a show, getting off stage or done between 11pm-12am, going back to the hotel to attempt to sleep but your adrenaline is still high so your tired but your body is still wired only to have to be up for. lobby call between 4-7am to do it all over again the next day. its really alot more happening than most people see.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do support is fix the issues with streaming and PAY THE ARTIST AND CREATIVES. The ROI in music for artist right now is insane. You dont even make 1 cent when your song is streamed. So if music feels like its in a weird place right now that because it is. Pay the artist and dont just stream the music. Buy it and then stream it.
