Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Torry Terry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Torry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Well my Stepfather Willie Golden was one of the Original Gangsters from Old Miami in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He was ready to tell his story, so we got together and first turned it into a book. The only problem we encountered was that neither one of us knew how to start the process for the book. So we reached out to some publishing companies to see if they could help us. For about two weeks of searching for a company that would fit our budget, we came to the conclusion to do it ourselves. I started the research using Google, YouTube and other platforms and BINGO, we started our own publishing company named Billboards&Plaques Publishing. I learned the process of book creation and formatted and launched the book about my stepfather called “The Locks” which is a slang term for a city in Miami called Opa-Locka.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into book writing in the hopes that the book I created about my stepfather will become a motion picture one day. And Today we have come to accomplish that. Since this vision we have shoot the Documentary about my stepfather and are heading to be shown on Amazon Prime. I’m a go getter by heart, so it’s hard to stop me once I sat my mind to it. I want all my readers and fan to know that we are not to far off from getting a movie about Miami-Dade County as well
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We have been through this struggle for the past 5 years now. There were many doors closed in our face, and by us keep pushing and not letting our craft die we have made it this far. We have been on interviews, placed in magazines and even on TV
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The people you come in contact with and grow relationships with makes this all wild.
