We were lucky to catch up with Torrie Parker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Torrie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
•When i was younger, I wasn’t able to go get haircuts frequently due to my family’s financial status, So I decided to start cutting my own hair and my little brothers, Eventually people started asking me who cut my hair. & word went around.
• i dont feel like its anything you can due to speed up greatness, it comes with consistency & error, you have to be hands on & willing to make mistakes
• i feel the most important skill in my field is paying attention to details, thats what separates me from everyone, im a perfectionist.
• only obstacles that stood in my way was being able to afford clippers at the time
Torrie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Im a self taught celebrity barber, I Started off cutting people for free so i can practice, Sometimes i would even just ask for a snack in trade for my service, I was so intrigued with getting better and better, I wasn’t even worried about the money at first until my mother told me to start charging people if im gone be using her light bill. Over the years I’ve motivated plenty of people to chase their dreams, no matter the circumstance. Im different from your average barber because im self taught, to me, their is no right or wrong way when it comes to cutting hair, its an ART.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom that comes with it and the power to make someone mood change, its no better feeling than seeing someone come in with their confidence low and leaving with a big smile.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In the beginning i made sure i posted videos everyday, i didnt care who got tired of seeing me, i was gone promote promote promote until i got the recognition & love i felt I deserved. Be creative with your content, there’s no Rules.
