We were lucky to catch up with Torrie “El CapeTeaux” Ferguson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Torrie “El CapeTeaux”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
On top of me being an artist and actor, I am a business owner as well, my record label Drip Soundz Records and my entertainment company TalkBoy Worldwide Entertainment that creates music video’s, photography and creative direction. My main passion is music and recording my own songs I also song-write as well. I want to be able to help build confidence in music and those who want to work with me. I’ve worked with other artists engineering their songs and helping them know that they can do it. I’ve found myself and my accomplishments inspiring to those who know me for them to go after their passion and dreams.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Torrie “El CapeTeaux” Ferguson I am 36 years old. To pronounce my stage name it is el-cap-e-toe meaning Capricorn Torrie. I am an award winning recording artist, actor, songwriter, model, director and entrepreneur from Dallas, Texas. I wear a lot of hats, owning my own independent record music label Drip Soundz Records and entertainment company TalkBoy Worldwide Entertainment. My song “SCARXD.” from my first project EP “The Lockdown” was recognized by Big Daddy Kane and added to his music compilation “The Light Up” Mixtape in 2021. I started having this mindset back in 2018 with creative directing. Helping produce and decorate a YouTube interview with Since DayOne and singer Quindon Tarver thought it was a good idea to create my entertainment company after to help do more. I’ve always had a love for music 80s and 90s R&B my favorite artist is Michael Jackson. In 2019 I wanted to pursue music and recorded my first song “Feelings (Got Me)” after that recording took a life of its own. I wanted to have creative control of my music and own the rights even if it was just me listening to it at home. So I created Drip Soundz Records and my partner the late great Tyran J helped me get it going in 2020. I hadn’t known much about the in’s and out’s day to day of business and generating money for my work I just knew it would come when it was time. After releasing my first project, I used my entertainment company to employ talent to film my music videos. I wanted companies that would tie in together. Being a creative takes long hours on top of maintaining a corporate job, Going into the recording of my debut album “Full Attention” I had to stay up past bedtime I didn’t get to sleep sometimes till 4am if I even slept, before having to work a 8 hour shift. When you are passionate and love what you do it feels like a championship game everyday. In the span of 4 years I have released 2 EPs, 2 LPs and 1 mixtape with my new album “Casanova” coming out in December. In 2020 my first starring TV series “Out In The South” miniseries on YouTube by I Am Corta Entertainment was filmed then released in 2021. This year in 2023, I starred as “Ermias” in the Think Fuller Production stage play “A Widow’s Alchemy” as a 17 year old with autism who is left without his parents. Seeing myself on the big screen was something to see crazy how the same theater I used to go to growing up I’m watching myself on as adult with Al Blaq Films motion picture “Mojo Savage” that premiered on Tubi worldwide. Life has been amazing and God has everything to do with it. Having faith and moving on it will bring you so many blessings and networking is very big. The pandemic changed a lot on how we network these days and we seem to let big opportunities pass us by. On top I’m a uncle who my nephews are my driving force I want them to be proud of their uncle and keep the legacy alive. Last but not least a doggy daddy to a black Border Terrier named Prince Tyran he’s been my motivation since I brought him home Thanksgiving 2020.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my partner Tyran J who also became by business partner in 2017, he ended up being my fiancé in 2020. He invested into me starting my record label. He passed in 2022 and now I am handling the business task to maintain the company.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think my style in image and personality has helped me a lot with my reputation. Being able to network and make connections with others that find what I have to offer interesting. I feel like I can adapt and fit into rooms I didn’t think would be possible beforehand.
