We were lucky to catch up with Torie Wiley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Torie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
As the CEO of Wiley Corporation I created my own brand called 18 Wheels to shine light on the logistics/Trucking industry . I wanted to tell my story of 23 years in the industry which pushed me to create the 18 Wheels podcast. Our podcast is the raw and uncut truth about the industry. We discuss all topics such as relationship, trucking and logistics issues and we also bring in guest speakers to help promote and shine the light on their business. We have had many guest speakers on that can also help people with mental health and wellness to stay fit on the road. I remember when we first started the podcast on October 4, 2021 and I discussed with my host that if we push are podcast and do a great job hopefully we will be able to get it heard on Spotify and other platforms in two months we had it on Spotify which was amazing but I wanted it on all platforms so our team pushed and pushed and now our podcast is heard all over the world on every platform Pandora IHeart radio Deezer Apple podcast and even on Alexa to name a few. I am proud of what we have accomplished in one year but I didn’t stop there. I decided to open a online store called The 18 Wheels Store! It’s your one stop shop for all your on and off the road needs.The idea came about were I wanted to sell good quality products for affordable prices that’s geared around the industry and their families. Who says you can’t look fly while driving your rig! Truck drivers are know for looking dirty and tired and I want to change the perception of how people sees us outside of the industry. So why stop there I went and created my own spring water line called 18 Wheels Natural Spring Water. What’s special about our water it is bottled in a aluminum recycling reusable can that keeps your water or other products cold for up to two hours. My goal is to have our spring water in trucks stop all across America to keep all drivers hydrated on the road wherever the are .
Torie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Wiley Corporation is a logistics company based out of South Florida, District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. We am to be one of top logistics companies in Florida and in the Washington Metropolitan area. Wiley Corporations primary focus is working with established freight companies. Our company has contracts with FedEx Custom Critical and Maven Logistics. We are aiming to bid on larger contracts with the US government. As Torie Wiley the CEO of Wiley Corporation I have always pushed people to their potential because I believe everyone has a better version of themselves. I love to help and educate others based on my experiences. When employees work for our companies we value each person as family not a paycheck or employer Identification number as some of the larger companies do. I am proud how Wiley Corporation has branch out and build it’s on 18 Wheels Brand that includes our podcast the The 18 Wheels Talk Show our online store The 18 Wheels Store and our 18 Wheels Spring Water. Our number one goal for the 18 wheels brand is to change the perception of how truckers and warehouse employees are viewed. This is an industry that is very lucrative and as a brand we want to show people that if you have what it takes you can make anything happen once you put your mind to it regardless what industry your currently in.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the past five years since my divorce I used that time to find peace and enjoy life to the fullest whether through traveling, building business relationships or watching basketball to clear my mind. One of the main challenges I face in my industry was was growth and trusting the right people. I have had individuals that hung around when things were golden but when things got rough they disappeared talk trash even try to destroy what we have built but that never stoped me it just was an obstacle that I had to navigate around for the clear road to success. I have a loyal dedicated circle in my corner that keeps me focus and never brings negativity or drama my way and I truly love my team for that. I came a long way by thinking that materialism and superficial people were ordinary. But as I changed my circle of people, I started to be introduced to people who could give me the knowledge to become a successful businessman. My mindset changed instantly to revolve my circle around entrepreneurs and business owners to help me succeed. As I transitioned from one lifestyle to another, I learned that if you don’t make mistakes as an entrepreneur you will never know how to grow and understand failure. I don’t quit its not in my blood but man its been so many times I have wanted too!
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We have definitely crossed over in an entire new lane for Wiley Corporation by getting in to the e-commerce side of the company. I love it taking something from scratch and building it into an empire. When we first started the 18 Wheels Store we face several challenges like design find the right algorithm and making sure the site was user friendly. Marketing is everything! We open the store and I was excited but our buyers wasn’t. The store was boring so we went back into the lab hired our outstanding developer and she knocked it out the box. Now our store is being view all over the word an our 18 Wheels Spring water is being sold on EBay and coming soon to Amazon.. We will definitely be expanding the store in months to come!
