Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Torie Moffat. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Torie, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I am a full time Veterinary Assistant, currently working toward becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. I have been in this field for 5 years now and I absolutely love it. However, it wasn’t my original dream to have a career in the field of animal medicine. My original goal in life was to go to school for Astrophysics to become an astronaut and work for NASA. I had a conversation with a client about this about a year ago now. We discussed how I was going to school for Astrophysics many years ago and ended up pausing my education in order to help my family with some private matters. The client was so interested in my life and past and was so kind to me as well. It’s always so rewarding when I can connect with clients and when I can have deeper conversations with people in general. This client asked me why I hadn’t gone back to school for Astrophysics and finished reaching my goals. I hadn’t really thought about it and didn’t really think about going back to school, especially now that I am in a career field that does make me happy. The client’s advice to me was that it’s never too late to go toward another dream or an old dream, even if you feel that you’re currently satisfied where you’re at. They said that there will always be a part of you that will wonder what would’ve happened if you had gone toward the other dream. This really stuck with me and made me rethink what I want out of life; what are all of the goals and dreams that I have that I want to reach, even while I have already achieved some goals already. You can never have too many dreams and goals and you are capable of working toward all of them at the same time in order to be fully satisfied with every aspect of your life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got in to Veterinary medicine because I really love and care about animals and want to be able to help them on a daily basis. I feel very satisfied with my job every day and feel that I, along with the people I work with, make a difference in people’s pets’ lives. This is my day job and I find it very rewarding.
However, when I’m not at work, I am a photographer. I have loved photography since I was young. I have been practicing photography since then and feel that I do excellent work with my photography. I love to photograph while traveling, which I also do regularly. I love to photograph the things I see while traveling, including the people I’m with and the things that I see that I feel are very interesting or visually artistic. I think what sets me apart is that I don’t ever give up, even when some people in my past have told me that I should give up. I’ve faced a lot of negativity and toxicity in my life and I have never let that permanently impact my opinion of myself or my overall well-being. I feel that it’s very important to believe in yourself and to love yourself because you are the only person that you will always have with you, no matter what.
My brand is my social media, which I have slowly been working on building on while I’m not at my day job. I have an Instagram page and a YouTube channel that are named @adventuringtorie. One of my goals in life is to become a full time influencer and I try to work on that with my social media when I am able to do so. I hope that I will be able to focus more on that goal in a couple years, after I have achieved becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician. In the meantime, I do like to focus on photographing and posting the things that matter most to me and that have a positive impact on others as well. I like to spread happiness and positive vibes as much as possible. I feel like there is way too much negativity in the world and people need more things to make them smile and have hope in their lives.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to be an extremely shy person and I wouldn’t ever speak up for myself or ever take any risks. Due to the fact that I was so shy, I used to be very afraid of what others thought of me and very afraid of doing anything that others wouldn’t approve of, even though I didn’t know what that even entailed. I was so self conscious and insecure about everything. As I’ve grown up, I’ve had to grow out of that mindset. I have had to unlearn that fear of doing things, especially going out and doing things on my own or taking risks. It has been over a decade since I’ve struggled with this internal struggle and sometimes it can creep back in and I will question whether I’m going to be judged for a post or something like that.
The lesson I had put on myself back then was that I wasn’t capable of doing anything perfectly enough for anyone’s approval. I have had to unlearn that lesson and now understand that I will never make everyone happy and nobody is perfect. I do my best every day and I do what makes me happy. I love to bring joy and laughter to the people around me and through my social media. I understand now that as long as I’m making someone happy and as long as I am also happy, then I’m doing things well and I am succeeding in my life. Don’t be afraid to follow your dreams just because you’re afraid some people might not support you, because you will always have some people supporting you.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I had a different goal and dream career while growing up, but I don’t think I would change anything about the choices I’ve made throughout my life that have gotten me to where I am now and to the career I have now. Of course, in the moment, I’ve had regrets in the past, but overall I think it’s important to take responsibility for the choices you make throughout your life and move on from them. I think that I would rather keep moving forward and continue growing through my decisions. The fact of the matter is that I have always worked hard toward anything I’ve set my heart and mind to and I wouldn’t want to discredit myself for any of that. I will continue to work hard towards any goals and dreams I have now or any that I want to come back to and start to work towards again.
I’ve had a lot of different jobs throughout my life and I am glad that I had the experiences and gained the knowledge that I did from each and every one of them. I don’t see leaving a job and going on to a different one as a failure, I see it as learning and growing throughout your professional life and I think that is something you should be proud of.
